      Hi parents,

For those who has done PV in this sch, if I stay less than 1 km and do PV? Is it gurantee tat I will get into the sch? Do I still need ballotting under Phase 2B?

      Thanks for the advise.

Hi serenejz, I'm was in the same situation as you last year. Well, let's put it this way, I won't say this is 100% guaranteed that your child would be accepted but one thing's for sure, you will definitely be in the priority list for the cohort of PVs. So your PV peers who are outside 1km would have more to worry than you. Also, I'm not so sure is if there is any difference in \"weightage\" between the different groups within phase 2B. Lastly, for the record, I don't think there was any balloting in the Rosyth's history in phase 2B (within 1km). Hope that helps to calm your nerves!

Correction: I had a fren who had to ballot for phase 2B for Rosyth, but that is in the dragon year. So far, very few for Rosyth phase 2B needs balloting. Having said that, I understand the PV is very difficult to get in for Rosyth.

There were indeed balloting at phase 2B in year 2006 and 2007 but the balloting was to \"eliminate\" only one entry. Eg, 42 entries, 41 vacancies. In any case, I believe the school allowed the extra entry to be admitted after deliberation. So PVs can still rest at ease.
Yes, I do agree that PVs are very difficult to be selected. Some other schools don't even require PVs because they have enough entries from other groups in phase 2B!

          Hi Cartier
I don't think relocating is a possibility. Converting to a single session should be done by 2016 as stipulated by MOE.
I spoke to the school and was told MOE has postponed the deadline to 2017. No detailed plans yet but the school will likely move to a holding site around 2013-2014, upgrade the current premises and move back by 2017. Of course, these are subjected to changes in MOE's plan.

I understand from PVs that in 2006, 8 people were balloted out, some from the grassroots, some from the PVs. In 2007, 1 PV was balloted out. I believe this PV's child would have been accepted post P1 registration.

              Hi parents

Would like to find out the following pertaining to Rosyth:-

              1) How do they do class placement for P1. Streaming or random or ?
              2) If a child is weak in certain subject, how does the school support the learning? Remedial or own tutition or ?

              Thanks.
My friend is with Rosyth's PSG and was involved in the P1 reading test. She said the children were asked to read a list of high frequency words and the results range from full marks to a few marks. The school randomly allocated the children to their classes but took note of those who needed help and gave them special attention. I didn't ask what specific help was given though.

Another friend's daughter who is in P5 is weak in English & Maths as parents are not well educated. Her form teacher called them after CA1 to discuss with them the areas that their daughter can improve on and what the parents could do. Then she provided them with a list of recommended readings.

The teacher also enquired the secondary school they have in mind and estimated the average score their daughter needs for the 4 subjects. The teacher told them the neighbourhood secondary school they have chosen is a good choice as it has a nurturing culture. She said given their daughter's reserved and quiet personality, it's important she goes to such a school, which the parents totally agreed.

The parents were so grateful for the advice that they heeded them immediately. After SA1, the teacher called to update them on the progress.

I thought it was very nice of this teacher.

Thanks to singmathstutor & pummanuel for answering my queries.

I’ve heard other schools having learning support programs for students who are weak in specific subjects. And also workshops conducted for parents on topics like hanyu pinyin so that they could coach their children at home. I felt that this type of support by the school is very good. Wonder if Rosyth have such workshop?

Wow, what are these schools? You will need Rosythian parents to answer these questions. This is a super quiet thread.

Will check with the school directly and post it here if I have the reply.

My girl will be attending P1 in Rosyth next year. Hope to network with Rosythian parents here.

Rosyth do have a , they call it the LSP program for the weaker students . I have feedback from my Pr 1 gal that the weakest perfoming students in each class for each subject will have to attend extra lessons before school starts . But you still have to check with the school for more info…

First week of school , the whole class went through a reading test of identifying hundred common words to assess the children , marks were given , and parents were to sign and check.
The school do work closely with parents and my gal’s form teacher even set up a blog for parents to share the events / photos / activities of the class…
