My son only enters primary school in another 3 years but I would like to find out more.

For phrase 2B, if number of applicants exceeds the vacancies, there will be a ballot. Can I know is it just a simple case of balloting (regardless of where we live) or it will follow terms/conditions like the phrase 2C? (Like priority 1km<, 1-2km etc)

The latter. During balloting, priority will be based on your home's proximity to the school.

Thanks. I didn't know that. I thought it is just a simple case of balloting.

            Hi,

I’m trying to get my boy to get into RSS. We are staying less than 1 km from the school. Is there any way to increase our chance to get to phase 2B besides doing PV. How early do I hv to start doing PV? Appreciate yr kind advice.

QUote from MOE : Phase 2B is for a child whose parent has joined the school as a parent volunteer not later than xxx and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by xxx; or whose parent is a member endorsed by the church/clan directly connected with the school; or whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader.

Start sending in ur PV applications 2yrs before P1 registration.

                I am new here..

I wish to join Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) as member, have some existing members here?

My daughter will register P1 in year 2010.

Hi Sefina, you may want to check with SHHK if it will be too late to join as member. I understood that they have a requirement that you be a member for at least 1 year prior to registration before they will issue you the letter.

Understood that in 2008, if you wanted to enrol in Aitong, you have to be a member for at least 4 years prior. this was due to high demand for that school. SHHK does control the letters they issue.

A last resort could be to go via the RC route. You may not be too late for PV. My friend registered recently for PV at a top school and managed to clock up more than 30 hours already.

                        Hi Sefina,

What Hquek said, you have to be a PV for 1 yr is very true. Sign up now.
Do you stay 1km from the school? Asking SHHK doesnt really help much. They have 5 or 6 school under the clan. If you are staying near, its good to try out but the chances are 50%-50%, but if too many enrolment, then have to ballot.

Studying in the sch is a prestige like all in-demand schools, surviving is another issue. If you are prepared to go through all these, then it is good to try. Consider, P1- they have CA1, SA1, CA2, SA2. Some in-demand schools only need to sit for SA2. Good neighbourhood sch have small test but no term test. So, will you feel stress for your kid when studying there? Think about it. All the kids there are like smartie to me. Most of the parents wants their kids to excel so they will send them to enrichment programmes or tution.

I am not discouraging you, just want you to have an idea of what you will have to know before you make your decision.
