Since he is coming from China, can I assume he has no problems with Chinese? And if you have been conversing with him in English, he should have no problems with that either. The only thing left is to determine:
1. His reading capability. Can he read simple story books?
2. His math capability. Can he do simple sums and subtractions?
If the answer is yes to all of these questions, he should be ok in Primary 1.
Chief, are simple books really sufficient? I see my girl's Kindy story books, all v simple and she is able to read it with a breeze. When I borrow those books from the library with harder and more words, it seems so hard for her. Now I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much from her :?: ... She is in K1 now. -

Hi
I'm thinking of switching my kids (N2 & K1) from private sch to PCF sch due to the high fees. Can i have any recommendations on the PCF sch in puggol. Think there is one at Blk 176.

Suggest you check on your PCF before you switch. I switched my boy early this year to PCF due to high school fees as well. Regretted as they changed 3 teachers within 3mths and during their term 1, they were taught to write straight lines at K1. When i called the principal to check and understand that they only started to train kids to write in K1. No writing at all in nursery. Luckily my boy's old kindergarten takes him back and he's now happy going back to his old school and meeting his old classmates. -
Ya I agreed with MUMMYOF3. I very kiasu, have surveyed 5 PCF centers around my place before I made the decision. The child’s response is also very important, must bring him/her to survey the place and ask for their opinion as well…coz swtiching school is pretty traumatic for them. I did alot of explaining and ‘brainwashing’ in order for my son to accept the new environment.

May i know whether is it from the puggol blk 176 PCF?
so good thing u manage to switch yr child back. if they just write line in K1, seems the speed of learning is rather slow... currently they're writing ABC.. -
it’s true… i also dun like the hassle to switch kids if not due to financial condition… ok. Will survey the environment first. but i wanted to know how old is yr kids? and how do u find PCF curriculum and their teaching?

Hi Mui2203,
My boy was at Punggol East PCF. My main reason of switching was the teacher turnover rate was high. Within 3 mths, they changed 3 teachers . Which is your child kindy now ? May be it’s the same as my boy. -
hi, i’m wondering if anyone sends your child to pcf kindergarten @ bishan & any comments abt the kindergarten? cos i just heard that the children there are not as well prepared for p1. wonder if it’s true?
