hihi
newbie here. my whole family are baptised Methodist and we attend church regularly. However, we stay in punggol and my twins are a boy and a girl. What are the chances of them getting into ACS pri and paya lebar methodist school under phase 2B since we have church affiliation? The school said that even with church letter, the chance of us not getting a very strong since both schools are out of 2km. There are no christain school within 1 or even 2 km of my house… short of moving house… is there any other options for me?
Lastly, if i volunteer, do i have to do this twice since i have 2 kids going to P1 together? -

You will have to enrol to 2 different sch as a VP. But the chances of getting ACS is really very slim, maybe you have the chance but usually very tough. If you want to make things easy for you, which pri sch did you and hub graduate from. That will makes things easy and less time consuming.
For your gal, you can enrol her to CHIJ St Joseph or CHIJ Punggol
For your son, the nearest for you will be Roysth. These 3 schs are very popular.
Do consider if the kid can overcome pressureif you were to put them in top schs? How about travelling distance? Have you think about it?
Do consider carefully. My son is studying very far from home. B'cos I was working in oversea, hardly have time in singapore, so I enrol my son to my ex- pri sch. He got in but the distance is too far. Pressurise but he can still manage it well.
All the best -

Dear san76,
Thanks so much for your info. I didn't know there is enrichment class to prepare kids for P1!! These people really know how to do business ; )
My hubby said I worry too much. If I were to tell him about this prep class thing, he will sure shake head

Yah, you are right. Thinking back our older days, where on earth is prep class for P1 hor?
but it would be good if you can attend to one. At least the kid is prepared and ready for school. Ur kid more or less will be able to know what the teacher is teaching and what will install for her.
Maths is very easy, the best part is the Han Yu Pin Yin for the first 4mths of sch life and mid year test, they will have some Han Zi. English, not too tough, only polish up the grammer and vocab will be ok. Aiyo, I think there is alot for them to learn and study.
Meanwhile, try to guide your kid to read some books and recognised some basic words. Some sch will access the kids during P1 orientation.
A simple test paper is given to them and test out the standard of the child, this is to test the kid readiness.
Dont stress, in Kiasuparents, you will be able to read up more and understanding the pri sch life and what to expect and prevent when your kid is in P1.

hihi
thanks for advise. They are currently in kindy at ACS campus and yes, the travelling time takes an hour but they seem to be looking forward to school daily still.
I know hopes are slim but option is for a christain school. Think i do not get priority for catholic schools like CHIJ. Looks like I will have to move house soon… -

Is moving house the best option? You can rent a house and use the address to apply for the sch. I read about this last wk or so when a parent wanted the kid to XXX sch then they will rent and use the address.
But sincerely, I dont encourage it. Slowly be cool headed to accept more options and soon you will get one. Ask your church is there any other school beside ACS. -

If you want to try an ACS school for your boy, you can give a go at ACS Junior, not ACS Primary as the spaces available for the latter is much lesser since majority of the vacancies are taken up by the kids of the old boys. I have 2 friends living in Hougang who applied to ACSJ under Phase 2B last year and they managed to get their kids into the school although they had to go thru balloting but thankfully, they were successful. No harm trying since this is under Phase 2B. If you are not successful, you can then try for another school under Phase 2C. For your daughter, what about applying to CHIJ Our Lady of the Nativity ..a catholic school no doubt but they do teach christian values and it is closer to your home.hihi

Twins are considered as one applicant only, they only take up one vacancy in the school. If u need to ballot, u would also be given one chance only, either both go in, or both dont.
