It’s really a great helpful information.

It’s so strange that the birth rate decrease yearly.
Oh well, juz a tot that if with the low birth rate for that particular year born, kid get into Primary school maybe have higher chances.
Not true all the time. MOE will get the schools to \"increase\" or \"decrease\" the no. of classes and vacancies accordingly. So for next year's P1 (ie. registering now), our school has 1 class less, means 30 less vacancy.

Yes…we would assume that having a declining birth rate in the past few years, the "competition" for places will be relatively lower. But as I mentioned in another post, though birth rate for 2001 is higher than 2002, MOE is expecting a higher number of registration for P1 this year compared to last year. I assume this additional numbers are children of PRs & foreigners, who were not born in Singapore. Children of PRs could register in any of the earlier phases, but children of foreigners will have to register under phase 3.

Hmm…if MOE is expecting a higher number of kids registering for P1, then why are (a number of) schools reducing the number of classes this year?

But these figures do not include PR’s. So may not be a good gauge still.Anyway, still great to have these numbers.

I too feel that this year's overwhelming P1 registeration caught us right there, with a higher number of applications and yet very few vacancies increased. The PRs could have contributed to the part of the increase. Many of my friends are lamenting about the risk of balloting even in phase 2B. Phase 2C kids really loogi alot. Do we have to spend millions just to stay within 1km to top schools? It is totally outrageous.

:? yeah...most of the popular/ top schools r situated nearer prime or landed areas...difficult to get in unless u stay near them...so meaning to say indirectly, the rich kids get slightly better education by default in school, without all the extra enrichment classes that the poorer cannot afford...
