Hi, I may be confused, but how can your 6 year old who starts Grade 1 in this new year be P2 in Jan 2011?Hi! All KSers
It's so great to meet all of you here in this forum. While researching on relocating back to SG and the how-to's, I am really glad to stumble upon you all.
I am a Singaporean mom and my daughter is now 6 years old. She's a december baby. USA academic year is from Aug-May, while here it is Jan-Dec. In USA, she will be in 1st Grade in the new academic year 2010-2011, whereas here, I realised she will be in P2 in 2011.
We plan on being back for a few years from 2011, due to my mom's ill health. Can anyone enlighten me on what I should do to effect a smooth transition for her? Should I let her finish off 1st Grade there, then transfer over here? Should I arrange transfer while there or have to wait till we relocate to SG?
My daughter is in a gifted program in USA. Does that count for anything here? I have so many questions to ask the wealth of knowledge in all of you, but I shall stop here for now.
Any and all input will be appreciated. Greatly!
Thank you all and it's a pleasure meeting all of you.
Your child should be in P1 next Jan!
Mind if I ask what gifted program is that, and which state are you in?
Not sure if US education is the same country-wide, but the Maths level in Singapore should be one grade higher. -

Peoria? Illinois? Boy, this brings back a flood of memoriesPeoria, Illinois.
We are checking on Wilder Waite Elementary School.
Thanks.
I spent 5 years in Urbana-Champaign. 100miles south east of Peoria. Be prepared for miles and miles of open space without a skyline :).
