Hehehehehe. Chief, you used eleven words to describe tuition 😄 . I use this technique in exams when I have nothing to write and need to fill up the pages!

          Hi,

Yup. What I meant was we need to apply to Hokkien Huay Kuan for recommendation ard June, which is ard the same time/or before phase 2A is happening. After phase 2A, remaining vacancies will be divided equally for phase 2B and phase 2C. Under phase 2B, school will allot some quota for hokkien Huay Kuan's recommendation. So depending on the quota and number of members requesting for recommendation for that particular year, Hokkien huay Kuan will then decide whether to recommend which members for enrolment. For my eldest boy who was born in 2001, I called the huay kuan ard Jul 07, after phase 2A. I was told that they'll be recommending me to enrol my boy to apply for Chongfu under phase 2B. When I went to Chongfu for registration under phase 2B, I was told since I'm staying outside 2km, there'll be a balloting exercise; which my boy was picked. That's how I managed to enrol my boy even though my Hokkien membership was barely few months.

          Hope the above clarifies:)
Hi happiemum, read your few posts about CF and am very encouraged. My girl is due for registration for P1 next year. We were accepted as SHHK members in Feb 09. Heartening to hear that you got SHHK recommendation for CF even with a few month's membership, which means we stand some chance as well. We have been hearing the standard reply that 2-years' membership is required. But I reckon the 2-years is meant for those hot schools like aitong and taonan. yeah ...

we stay very near to the 2km mark. I wrote to the school to ask for distance, and was told that my house is out of the 2km mark. I bought the map from SLA and it indicated that my house is 1-2km. so ???? then I called the school but it did not seem to want to commit, and asked me to look at the map when it gets posted during this year's P1 registration.

We prefer not to ballot if possible, cos I am an old girl of st nicks and my girl automatically qualifies in Phase 2A. but like you, I prefer the chinese culture of CF, and would love to put my kids in that school if given a chance.

so also in dilemma now ... the critical point is whether the school accepts my house to be 1-2km. if so, and i can get SHHK's recommendation then we should be quite safe. if not, then even if i get the recommendation letter, then there would still be balloting.

btw, when did you submit your letter to request for recommendation to SHHK? Is it end of the year?

            Hi,

You r right. If u r staying within 2 km to CF, then you r likely to avoid the balloting exercise. Usually, we can call the school to verify but if the school doesn’t want to commit maybe u wanna try checking with the Ministry of Education? Think it’s very impt to verify this b4 u decide which school to enroll your child. St Nicholas is a very good school so dun miss a chance to enroll your girl. I presume u r staying in Yishun and AMK is that not far.

For Hokkien Huay Kuan Members, u need to bring along letter that certifies membership to their office around early to mid June to apply for the huay kuan to recommend u to enroll your girl in CF. Just submit the form and u need to call them ard 1 month later in Jul after phase 2A to check whether they’ll be recommending u.

I’m not sure whether they ve reduced their quota as I heard CF will gradually reduce the number of classes for P1 registration so that more parents will be registering their children to other schools in Yishun.

yes, a good idea would be to check with MOE. not too good news about CF reducing their intake though … sigh …

              thanks for sharing.

everyone seems more concern on Higher Chinese in between ChongFu and Northland. I was quite hestitate in Chongfun as I was told Northland’s Math and Science are better. Whereas Chongfu languages are stronger. Any comments on this?

hello chengsmummy, good to hear the good review about cf. i want my girls to go to the school because i think their exposure to the overall culture there should be good. would you be able to share on the intellectual growth of your child, besides the academic aspects?

                    TIA.

                      Hi all,

i've previously shared in the forum in oct last year, that i was toying with the idea of transfering my son from Fuchun Pri to Chongfu, thou i know Chongfu has a much higher standards in terms of academics.

Applied anyhow, and was told to attend an entrance test which took one full day! thank god, the school admin called an hour later after his tests at 5pm to congratulate us!

I've never regretted much in my decision for transferring him there, personally felt that the students, culture and academics are the way above my mark. though i must say, my son, had about 3 months of accustomization. he had no friends, and no one to play with nor go recess with initially, but thank god, things are picking up now. the school also adopts a better working relationship with the parents and are constantly in contact with us with regards to their progress in school. 😄

the other worry was whether he can catch up with the difference in the standards, had to grill him harder, and all's paid well now... talk about super kiasuism.

so, parents, do not hesitate anymore!

I was wondering whether CF still have high standard in chinese? we qualified for phase 2A, but I’m not so keen to put my boy there. reason being, when I was in CF, chinese is a very important subject. so much tha I only concentrated on chinese and neglected english.furthermore, textbooks are in english, so, I was thinking is chinese really tat important?
