Besides the different culture, environment, etc, please NOTE that ACS(I) offers the IB whereas RI offers the GCE A at the end of the IP. That's 2 very different examination you will be takingPolar bear:
I have an aggregate score of 262, can someone please advise me on which school to choose. Raffles Institution or ACSI. I have been accepted for DSA into ACSI, but I am wondering if I should cancel it and go into RI. Help me to compare these two schools and tell me the pros and cons. Your opinions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I dont really recommend R.I. I would recommend you National Junior College instead. My senior is in that school and she told me it was a fabulous school and it has IP programme too

hi, tks for the input. ACSI is too far. btw, will it jeopardize his chance if a school is placed as 2nd/3rd choice? the admittance to school is based on merit (score) or order of choices? let's say HCI cop is 257, will a boy with 257 and put HCI as 1st choice has priority over someone with 259 but put HCI as 2nd choice?
The computer will allocate based on MERIT first. So the student with 259 will be allocated his choice of school before the student who scores 258, 257 etc.
You should put RI as first choice. There's no harm. If he doesn't get RI he'll be considered for his 2nd/3rd choice etc. You can also consider ACSI.jtoh:
Hi all,
My ds is 258+1 and in GE, he was pretty disappointed with the result. his classmate is the nation's top performer this year.
he is very keen in RI as his 1st choice, but considering the last few years cop, personally I think it's not very safe. i prefer HCI or NJC as the 1st choice instead. any suggestion?
tks
So anyone who's ranked above your son will get to exercise his choice first, regardless of whether it's his 1st choice, 2nd choice etc. Similarly, your son will get to exercise his choice before those ranked below him. So if he doesn't get his first choice of RI, he will get his 2nd choice etc before the computer moves down to the person ranked after him. -
My child has secured 268. Preferes RI. Could give some choices?
second choice ACS or NJC. Does the child have chance for RI? -

You can try looking for the website , or contacting the sch , asking for the appeal form . You hand the appeal form in when you are reporting to your allocated school . Example : You were allocated to ABC secondary school . You report there at 23rd December . But , you dont purchase the books , etc . You look for the staff there and say that you would like to request to appeal to another sch .
So if my first choice is Nan Hua and i am allocated to my second choice school fu hua, i report to fu hua and hand in the appeal form that i get from nan hua and request to appeal to another school.
May i know where to download the appeal form and where to hand it in??AlwaysKiasu:

Firstly , when you do the S1 postng exercise , put Nan Hua High as one of your top choices . (Top preferably) . Then , wait for the posting results to come out . If your child get selected to Nan Hua High straight away , good for him . If he is not , download the appeal form from the website ( this is how you get appeal form for some schools ) . Then , write you reason why you want you child into tat school , and together wif your child's testimonial , result slips , hand in the appeal form . -

with a score of 268, he should get whatever he puts as his first choice, no doubt about it. -
RI/RGS-RI HCI/NYGH-HCI Which one to choose as top choice?
Firstly, i would like to congratulate parents/pupils for their stellar performances.
Today, i would like to share my view from the strategic point. Approximately 65%-70% of our top scholar come from RI and HCI, as such, their options hve an impact on the outcome of their future applications. Even though one may argue that some kids may not opt to serve the bonds, it is still critical to them in their applications to top US unis, oxbridge or top coveted courses in medicine and law.
Selection base on input from open houses, culture, popularity, or top pupils proceeding to RI/RGS, i think is not the most critical. The selection criteria should be based on which instituition is most suitable for you in line with your objectives. In short, which instituition can bring the best out of you to achieve your fullest potential.
For pupils who excel in the areas of maths/science should attempt to go to RI/RGS. This is an area i feel they hve proven to be consistently outstanding. For pupils who excel in humanities or wish to study in Peking or Tsinghua unis, than the obvious choice is HCI/NGHS. Is advisable not to transfer from one instituition to another during yr5 as the students need to hve very good cca records in support of their applications to top unis or courses. Imagine if one transfers from RI to HCI or vice versa, he/she would hve lost their peers support in being elected to posts of President/Vice-President or exco members of student councils or other top posts in their respective ccas. Leadership positions in ccas are mandatory requirement in all the above applications. Ivy league unis consider winning international competitions as the most impt criteria in addition to excellent academic records.
As for top local courses such as medicine and law, good ccas record is no longer just an advangtage it is mandatory inorder to be invited for an interview. -
