WeiHan:
With the deteriorating financial condition of US, I suppose many of these scientists have difficulty securing research funding. On the other hand, the chinese government is pumping bigger funding into research. My question is do these scientists you met has considered any possibility of shifting to these universities for their career in the future?
I was in Boston last weekend and stayed with friends who are both Harvard professors/Research scientists. The husband commented that he knows that Shanghai Fudan university has a very good science program. Peking, Tsinghua and Fudan are the 3 top universities in China.d1s2:

Peking and Tsinghua are now considered as elite unis. Grads of these unis are warmly welcome in leading western societies.
My answer is \"likely\".[/quote]Both of my American friends have never been to Asia for work. They participates in scientific conferences mainly in Europe and America but are aware of the scientific communities in Asia. They are unlikely to be able to make the move due to family commitments. However, I have an Asian friend scientist with a National Institute who plans to leave the institute and do work in China in the near future. She laments the fact that she should have done more Mandarin even though she is fluent in the language as it would make dealings in China easier.
In the last week of meeting a number of people, it does seem that things have not recovered here in the US. Jobs are still not coming around.
I'm sorry this is :offtopic: so i better end here.. -

My dd classmate had 248 +2 got in after appeal last year.I have been seeing alot of people who have gotten 247 to 249, added with +2 or + 3 HCL to get a score around 248 ~ 252
Last year, my boy score 247 + 2, and tried to appeal to RV, however failed.
if im not wrong for that year ( 2009 ) , the COP was 251. so despite a mere 2 marks below the COP, he was still rejected. -
joconde:
With 240, he may just slip into SJI this year if the COP drops, so worth a try. Same with AHS. Other schools that you can consider with that score would be CCHM, Maris Stella, Xinmin, Nan Chiau.DS got 240 flat. Can anyone advise if this is a wise choice :
1. SJI (COP '10 : 241) - with appeal
2. Anglican (COP '10 : 240)
3. some other school with COP below 240....
What are his chances for first two choices ? -
momsie:
Hi momsie,This is more for average students......
........ I've scanned thru many comments in this and other threads and I feel it is not how good the school is, but how good will your child be in that school. That's the questions you should be asking. A good school is a school that would give your child lots of opportunity to shine without overwhelming him. Hope all of you will make the right decision where to put your child in.
Yours is perhaps the BEST INPUT in this thread of 100 pages plus.
Thank you very much for your pragmatic advice. Very well written. -

Too risky to take chances. RI should not be tiger 262 top choice. His son’s posting to HCI may be adversely affected vs others that placed HCI as top choice. -

I am shocked to hear that. Oh well, that's too bad. I have another friend of mine who's daughter score 248 + 2 and tried appealing into RV, but got rejected too. I wonder why ?

Mine also 1A* & 3A. Form teacher strongly recommended TKSS. He doesn't like SAP school, so rule out CCHM.ttlkbs:
Oh, now i m totally confused. DS's T-score is 235, thot of TKSS as 1st choice, but after reading above, shld i chg to Temasek as 1st choice? :?
Is depends on you and your DS. My son score is 235 (1A* and 3A) as well but I would still want him to go to (tentatively):
1st Choice: Maris Stella
2nd Choice: Chung Cheng High (Main)
3rd Choice: Tanjong Katong Sec Sch
4th Choice: St. Andrew
5th & 6th: Not decided

I notice that there is an obvious trend of choosing schools based on a cold hard number like "COP". And you see dialogue like those below.
A: My child has a t-score of xxx. Should I choose school A or school B or C? My child prefer school B
B: Well…according to your child t-score, he is well eligible for school A which has a 2 points higher COP than school B, Why don’t he choose school A instead?
But really, don’t you think this is really hair-splitting the t-score, 2 points is very small. School is not just represented by their COP. There are many intangible factors that can affect your experience and growth there.
For example, do you know that HCI celebrates mooncake festival every year. It is a big event organised by students themselves. On the day, all students will stay back late into midnight and the entire school campus will be romantically lit up and decorated with light bulbs and campfire. You can’t measure this kind of unforgetable experience. School life is not just about study and academic result. I suspect that is why before the implementation of IP, many RI and RGS students have chosen HCJC over RJC. -
