        Hi Jacz,

I went to both school today. DD prefers Beatty than Mayflower. Beatty looks new and big and Mayflower very run down.

Any idea how is the student in Beatty?? Thanks a lot for your help

        Go for Beatty then.
They achieved band 6 for last yr's O level whereas Mayflower is in band 7.

As for students, since Beatty has been very consistent in their academic performance, the school must have been very successful in the discipline of the students. I believe they perform well due to good discipline...that's just my view.

          Singamama:

hi, my daughter got 253 in her PSLE. She got A*s in Maths, Science and English, A in MT. She has always been good in Maths and Science and is now considering MGS, SCGS and Cedar. Wd be grateful for inputs on the following:

          >> Which of these three schools should she choose and why? Pls rank MGS, SCGS and Cedar on overall academic strength
          >> Rank them on academic strength in Maths and Science
          >> Do you know whether if she does well in school, whether she can get into the IP programmes of these schools in Sec 3 (2013)
          >> Which of these schools has a wide mix of races?

          thanks!

All three schools are equally good.

          COP for 2009: SCGS 251, MGS 250, Cedar 246.

The IP programme will not be applicable to your dd in SCGS and MGS as they will only be implemented to later batches of Sec 1s. At Cedar, about 50 students will be selected to join the IP at Sec 3.

I'm not too familiar with Cedar but both SCGS and MGS offer SBGE programmes. At MGS, there are two classes in the Sophia Blackmore program which caters to high ability students. Your child will be accepted into this if she passes a test. At SCGS, the top 2-3 classes will enjoy the Talent Program. With your dd's score, she will likely be in one of the top 3 classes.

School fees: MGS and SCGS are independent schools so their fees are $200+. Cedar is a govt school so regular fees apply.

In terms of racial mix, I can't comment because I don't have the statistics.

Which school to put first? I would attend the Open Houses to gauge the feel of the school, whether my child feels comfortable in that environment, whether the CCAs appeal to her etc.

regarding racial mix, cedar has a very good mix of chinese, malay and indian girls. my dd's close group of friends consist of indians, malay and chinese.

you should consider the distance also.

My dd score 248 with merit for hml, if she choose cedar, i heard from friend that they take in her score as 248 (cannot add 2 points for HML)

if she choose CHIJ ST nicholas, MOE will take in her score as 248 + 2 (HML) as st nick is a sap school. but for cedar girl they cannot take in HML,
so she change for getting into cedar girl will only 70pct. (cedar cut off is 246) please advise we should put cedar or st nick (cut off 247) as first choice.
            Thanks 😛

Dear all, advise please. My child psle result is 223. So far this is what we have on the list:

Chung Cheng (Yishun) cop: 230, mean: 235, median: 233
Gan Eng Seng, cop: 222, mean: 228, median: 227
              Mayflower, cop: 222, mean: 225, median: 225
Hua Yi, cop: 221, mean: 225, median: 225
              Bowen, cop: 221, mean: 226, median: 225
              Peirce, cop: 208, mean: 213, median: 212

Her cca is international dance and she is from River Valley Primary. Is the list too aggressive or good strategy. Worst outcome we are hoping she is going to Gan Eng Seng.

Advise please, pretty please to this confused mother-daughter.

HI my child is also from river valley.... He scored 230 trying to get to ang mo kio sec...Mind telling me your daughter's name? ( Sry , my son has been presurrizing me to post this question)

Appeal can be done now. However, result will only be known after s1 posting results. In yr dd's case, school will conduct a trial either dance or squash depending on their needs.

Understand yr deliema as u can only place Cedar, St. Nicks or SCGS as 1st choice. That makes yr 2nd choice critical hence my suggestion to place Crescent as yr no 2.
ok if scgs cop is not within my DD tscore, i drop that and place Cedar 1st, St Nicks 2nd , does it make sense for 247 and 249 include HMT

DS's friends are all persuading him to go there .... they all got some points above the COP of last year, and DS score is quite a number of points above the median....so is likely to put in the form......sigh ! still undecided lah ......

Don't mind if I ask..your ds got dsa to any school?[/quote]the whole \"gang\" of them all got DSA offers

i seriously need help…my parents like me cannot decide…

i got 230 and actually decided to put the following choices:

                        1. Commonwealth (COP at 236)
                        2. Swiss Cottage (COP 234)
                        3. Clementi Town (COP 230)
                        4. Fuhua (COP 229)
                        5. Kranji (COP 229)
                        6. Either Bukit Batok or Gan Eng Seng (COP 221 and 222 respectively)

went to commonwealth today for the open house and have also taken the appeal form…to appeal the teacher told me that it’s best that i put it as first choice…

my parents want me to give up Commonwealth and put Swiss as first choice followed by the rest of the schools as stated above…last choice being Bukit batok or Gan Eng Seng.

or should i also give up Swiss and put CHIJ St Theresa’s Convent as first choice (COP 232) followed by Clementi Town and the rest as above. However, checking against the 2010 School Achievement, CHIJ St Theresa’s Convent is Band 7…worst among all the schools selected.

I’m loosing sleep thinking of the above.

Any kind souls willing to assist? Thank you.
