Thanks 25hrmaid for your advice
No problem, glad to be of help. -
Hi, need some advice here. My DS got 241 (A* for MT), and we are thinking of the following choices:
1) SJI (COP 241)
2) Nan Hua (COP 242)
3 or 4) Bt Panjang Gov High (COP 241)
3 or 4) Fairfield Methodist Sec (COP 240)
5 or 6) Swiss Cottage (COP 234)
5 or 6) St Andrew Sec (COP 233)
Any advice?
How is Bt Panjang when compared to Fairfield Methodist?
Thanks much!! -

If you are not from the affiliated PLMGSPri, very high chance you will not get in (no matter our T-score). The school continues to admit ALL PLMGSPri girls first before opening to non-affiliation.
Kiasuparent1123:
Hi
I was looking thru PLMGSS's website and their dance team has clinched a Gold with Honours award in 2009. So your dd's ballet achievements can be an added advantage.
As for TKGS, it's a risk to put it as a choice as last yr COP was 233.
Anyhow, I think the best is to call up these 2 schools to enquire more.
Do you think its safe to put PLMGSS as first choice , second choice Pasir ris crest. Followed by others. http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7052
Check out this forum above. We havent apply for the school yet but do you think we should try this option out? Also, since this school PLMGSS is a goverment aided school. How much would the school fees be?
So shuld I put it as first choice? But that forum says tt appealing to the school isn't a problem. -

From many friends and contacts I spoke to , it seems the fact that the Top PSLE result for 2010 dropping to 282 from 2009's 290 will not reduce the COP for 2010 application. It seems even though Top result has dropped to 282 , most students did well in 2010 PSLE exam due to the easier paper than 2009. Hence , the percentage of students scoring more than 255 this time is much higher than in 2009. Hence , COP for most IP schools is expected to increase.
:? :? :? :?
I agree with you. Spoke to many parents and found generally most kids did much better this year compared to last year despite the Top mark dropped from 290 to 282. The Top mark is really the score of the Top ONE student and has no significance on the COP. Most did better and I am expecting COP for most schools to go up this year :?
This is what I heard too from talking to some teachers during this sat open house at many schools. It seems COP will go up this year. I think I will be more careful with my first choice and go with schools with 2009 COP that matches my kid's result. I really do not want to take risk or play russian roulette with my kid's future. Just my 2 cents' worth. -
One of my son's teacher I spoke to told me that COP for this year may go up . This worries me . :?: I need to be careful with my 1st choice..... :?: :?:

why go up since the overall top marks is lower than previous years? -
Thanks every one for answering my query.
Does it mean higher chance for my son to enter RI than Hwa Chong?semaj:
257 is with the HMT. So without it is 254. For RI, the COP is already without HMT since it is not a SAP school
rooney:
Last year COP of Hwa Chong=257, does it includes the merit point from Higher Chinese? What is the COP for those without HMT ?
You are wasting Choice no 2. Firstly he should get in to HCI - no problem. Secondly if he doesn't get in to HCI coz it's full, RI would also be full. So you are actually wasting Choice 2. You have to decide as Choice No 1 either HCI or RI. -

I remembered attending a talk when dd was in P4, which means this batch of P6 will be affected. PLMGS may not admit all PLMGS (pri) first as they want to \"raise\" the standard of the Sec Sch, so it's not guaranteed admission for the Pri sh but they will be given, say, 5-15 (not confirmed during the talk) bonus pts and compete with others not affiliated. Hope not given false hope. Pls check with the sch. Btw, dd left PLMGS as we relocated.Kiasuparent1123:

Yes, because his score is 262 which is higher than your son's 261.
No, RI does not consider HMT bonus points as it's not a SAP school.rooney:
Am I right to say that if one gets 259+3, he would get in to Hwa Chong first as compared to my son (261 without HMT)?
For RI, they don't consider the merit points for HMT, right?jtoh:
The COP is 257. Meaning if you didn't take HCL, you would have to score at least 257 to get into HCI last year. If you did take HCL, then your score would have had to be at least 256+1, 255+2 or 254+3.

The only SAP school you've listed is St Nick's so you can only use your HMT bonus points for that school. For all the other schools, your score is 260.What do you think of following choice for 260 +2
1) RGS
2) NJC
3) St Nicholas
4) Cedar
5) Crescent
6) CHIJ TP
do u think the chances of RGS is very slim? Definitely prefer my Dd to go to a girls school but she wants to try the IP.
I think your dd's score is probably very close to the COP for RGS. No one can predict if the COP will go up or down this year. But I think it's alright to put RGS as first choice because she should be able to get into NJC with 260 if she can't get RGS.
