so if compare RGS and NYGH COP, should minus 2 ((1+2+3)/3) from NYGH COP:
263-2=261 since some RGS pupils also have HMT scores..verykiasu2010:
so you are saying the actual cut off point for NYGH last year was 260 ?

cut of point for SAP school as published by MOE does not include HCL bonus points. it is the lowest t-score for anyone without HCL to get into that SAP school
if a student has HCL passes, she / he enjoys the benefit of the bonus point, does not imply that the cut-off point of the school is thus lowered by 3 points. it is a reward for doing the extra paper of higher difficulty.
Quote from NYGH's website :
3. What are admission criteria for Secondary 1 pupils (via annual posting exercise)?
The cut-off for PSLE T-score, inclusive of bonus points for Higher Mother Tongue, ranged from
262 to 265, in the last 3 years. For AY2010, the cut-off is 263 inclusive of HMT.
so tell me, is it inclusive of 1 or 2 or 3 points ? The 263 is inclusive of 1 or 2 or 3 points ?
in the briefing for parents last Thursday, it is stated very clearing that if the cut off point is 263, what it means is that anyone without HCL needs 263 to enter, and anyone with 262 plus HCL pass can enter, or anyone with 261 plus HCL merit pass can enter, or 260 with HCL distinction can enter.
so, if you don't have HCL, you need 263 to enter. THAT IS the cut off point. I got my facts right. It is NOT misleading. You get a discount if you have HCL. Read my post carefully first
-

may be not so simpleso if compare RGS and NYGH COP, should minus 2 ((1+2+3)/3) from NYGH COP:

you also have people without HMT and chose NYGH and hence needed 263 to enter (last year)
for those with HMT and chose RGS, they have decided knowingly their HMT points could not have any advantage -
Hi all
My ds scored 234 affiliated to ACS(Baker). We are in the east and thinking of putting Tanjong Katong Sec as 1st choice and Maris Stella 2nd Choice. Is it wise to give up the affiliation? Pls adv. Thanks -

DD in RVH. Heard some of her friends got in with 250 after appeal. Some with 251 were rejected. I guess the school doesn't just look at T-score alone.
Hi
I am shocked to hear that. Oh well, that's too bad. I have another friend of mine who's daughter score 248 + 2 and tried appealing into RV, but got rejected too. I wonder why ?loler12:

My dd classmate had 248 +2 got in after appeal last year.
I would like to know the appeal is done before the posting or after the posting, the other day i went to SJI, they told me if you are below the cut off point, they will give you the form for appealing. So wonder how does RVH work? -
Hi, my gal’s Tscore is 237 and we stay in Punggol. Thinking of the following choices:
1. Xin Min
2. Nan Chiau
3. Zhong Hua
4. TK Tech
5. TK Girls
6. Edgefield
My dilemma is that Xin Min’c cut off is 240 and is a band 2 school while Nan Chiau’s cut off is 231 but a band 1 school. Should we give up Xin Min and go for our 2 nd choice. What do you think? Would appreciate any advice as well as the opinion of the 2 schools. Thank you. -
If one person gets 258 +3 for hmt an my son hot 261 without higher mother tongue , which 1 wud haf a higher chance of getting into hwa chong?

Hello,
My neighbour’s son scored 251 for psle.He is thinking of NUS high, NJC and RI.
Can I know which school is within this cop for school that is in the east and central?thank you. -
25hourmaid:
I am not interested in debating on that issue. I just wanted to highlight the fact that the COP of SAP schools INCLUDE the HMT, does not matter whether it is 1, 2 or 3. I rest my case.
Agreed with 25hourmaid totally. Regardless of his trying-very-hard-to-give-original-comments-with-hcl-inclusion-in-cop, verykiasu2010's comments are definitely very misleading to the uninitiated parents. -

Both you and 25hr maid are working on the same set of facts but the interpretation is different. Maybe a re-phrasing of the statement would make more sense. Let me explain.
The COP for NYGH is 263. Which means that if you do not have HMT, you would have had to score 263 to get into NYGH. If you did have HMT, your score would have been 262+1, 261+2 or 260+3. So the lowest score of someone entering NYGH last year during the S1 posting exercise was 260 (IF you do not take HMT into account.) I believe we agree on this.
So yes, the COP is 263 (including HMT). But actual scores of the students getting into NYGH could be 260 (minus HMT).
Perhaps it's how we phrase it. Official COP of NYGH = 263.
BUT actual score of last student entering NYGH at S1 posting could be 260. -

Well, it's a 6 yr prog, so they don't need to switch to another JC, right? :?sall:
..... Most important of all, she likes the sch so much. We spent almost 4 hrs at the open house, so you can see how much she likes the sch  What about your child?
I have very good opinion of RV. Many of their students after joining RJ goes on to be among the top. However, just a point to consider :
RV has gone IP and it is not easy to switch school at JC unless among top 20. Therefore, if she subsequently think of switching to HCI or RI, it might not be possible. So the choice now, can decide her JC.
