River Valley High School [*IP]

Hi carrot, 2 days of CCA school would ends at 6pm. And if your child is taking the 2nd CCA, more time to spend on CCA. The other 3 days, usually ends at 1:30 or 2+. If you child is taking 3rd lang, one of the days would need to go Ghim Moh for it, ends at about 6+pm. One more day is for bonding between the peers support and new students (But I am not sure if they are changing this).
As I have always said in my previous, stress is due to the transition of primary to secondary. More subjects, more committment in CCA, new environment, new friends. Other than that, after 6 months, things are usually quite settle.

i think the distance is too far.....HI
i am not sure if this is the right place to post my queries, but hopefully existing RV students or parents with kids in RV can help....
My ds scored 255 +2 and we stayed in Toa Payoh.
I would like him to get into IP school and he himself is keen. but problem is , his score is borderline case. However, we r pretty sure that he should be able to get into rv if we put it as one of the choices. We went to the open house and was impressed with the school facilities, programmes and the students. but main concern is the distance. it is about an hour's journey from Toa Payoh to Boon Lay. I am hoping the new circle line can cut down the travelling time but there is no where to find the infor ie what is the travelling if we take the circle line from toa payoh to boon lay.
so, would really appreciate for some advices. is it worth the travelling time to go to RV or i shouldn't consider rv but choose Catholic high instead? some pple i talked to said travelling time is not the main consideration if it is a good school we are talking about but others eg my husband thinks that it is \"cruel\" of me to make him travel for 1 hour to and fro for 6 years.
thks
even if it is a very good sch that is suitable for him, the travelling will drain him out.....
255+2 , there should be a lot of schools to select
infact, if possible, u may plan to relocate to the west area, since NTU and NUS are in the west... -
the problem is there aren't many IP schools to choose or rather they choose him...at 257 (including 2 bonus pts), he is a borderline case. in the event if he can't go into HCI or NJC , RV is the only ip school left.
the estimated time to travel from toa payoh to boon lay will be about 1 hr (including waiting and walking time) using the new circle line that is currently under construction. is 1 hr too long a time to spend on commuting to school? some pple said it is okay as long as the school is the kid's dream school but some thought it is too tiring for the kid.
relocation at the moment is not possible as i still have to think about my 2 younger kids who go to school in toa payoh.
i have even thought about letting him stay in the rv hostel but at such a young age, i don't know if that is advisable
most likely i will drop RV and choose CHS instead and pray hard that he will get his first choice which is HCI..... -

octopusmum, personally I think distance is an important consideration. On the other hand, many students in my DS' school travel from all over the island to school, the travel time of 1 hour is quite common. I think your DS has a very good chance of getting his first choice HCI. All the best to him!the problem is there aren't many IP schools to choose or rather they choose him...at 257 (including 2 bonus pts), he is a borderline case. in the event if he can't go into HCI or NJC , RV is the only ip school left.

Are there kids nearby to carpool a mini van? Then when he gets older can stay in hostel for a semester or two.the problem is there aren't many IP schools to choose or rather they choose him...at 257 (including 2 bonus pts), he is a borderline case. in the event if he can't go into HCI or NJC , RV is the only ip school left.

Is the hostel available for ALL students to stay in? Does the school have restrictions for only having foreign students to stay, for instance? Why is sec 1 too young to stay in hostel? Ok, wat.octopusmum:

Tks all for the kind advices⦠I know I have posed the same question in a few threads . Believe it or not, I even called up Smrt and lta to enquire about the new circle line. Up till now we have yet to decide and time is running out.
Njc is likely to be the second choice . I have asked Ds but he prefers hci .
As for hostel, it is opened to singaporeans and first yr as well. But I think I am not ready for him to be away fr home for so long.
Guess we will go for chs as the 3rd choice .
