      Already in January.

Go, check when are the parents briefing for Upper Sec (3 & 4) conducted ? Are these briefing sessions already over, or coming soon this week or next week, ie. the last week of February 2023 ?

      If briefing(s) are coming soon,

      1) find out who are the level Head Teachers in charge, at Sec 3 and 4 level. Get these Tr in charge email address(es).

      2) After u find out their names, write an email with all your \"burning\" concerned questions that give rise to your worry & concern that u need to address , to the NJC school Principal, at the same time cc inside this same email to
VP (Academic) + all those Sec 3 and Sec 4 level head(s).

      WHY
do u need to involve these UPPER Secondary (3 & 4) level head(s),
instead of involving the Lower Secondary (1 and 2) level head(s) ?

      Because

Your daughter is only 2 months, into Sec 1. If you cc only the lower Sec level Teachers in charge, they may not take any action to improve the current situation inside NJC, ie.
the dropping A level results produced in recent past years,

      Because

Inside their mind, they may think oh ! your daughter is only in Sec 1 now, still far away from Sec 4. But as u know, improvement to academic or to salvage / rescue a situation, takes time besides putting in effort. Definitely not an overnight change recovery process, so fast. Hence, that is why go and cc the UPPER Sec level head Teachers in charge too, not just talk to the P + VP only.

Where VPs concerned, only cc the VP ( Academic ) in charge. No need to involve the VP (Administrative in charge) at all. Inside a JC, different VPs are responsible for different tasks and KPI.

      To kick start,
how to know who to write this email to or where can u find all these email address(es) ?
      Go to NJC website,
click under the staff organisation chart or staff list name, see who are those in management level, u will know.

      ========================

      FYI

At beginning of each academic year, before any parents briefing are conducted for all level, your class Form Tr always inform parents, the date(s) for different level parents briefing. They will inform parents, in advance through parent Gareway -

      \" Parents,

Do u have any \"burning\" question, for us (our school) ? If u have, pls write in to us your concern and during the actual parents' briefing, we will address your concern. \"

      So, lazygal21, what u waiting for ? ACTION !

my gal is hardworking though at times need a bit of pushing. i m thinking in the maybe lack of resources on the school and not gd teaching standard, will my gal still be able to progress academically? if u just look at the RP admission criteria for local uni these says, the competition is so intense. even courses that used to be be so easy to get in with B now req straight A or RP> 85. hence the worry as a parent.

then what could cause the drop in the results? is it the JAE cohort raw score (not nett score) is higher than other similar ranked JC? i dun know.do note that JAE cohort is larger than the IP cohort.

i hv taken a look at the JH1 school notes, not very impressed. i hv another child in HCI and i would say their notes r more comprehensive

phtthp... I am also waiting to see with the younger one. If there's value add shown in grades since it is a 6 years journey that we are mid way through. I don't monitor the kids day to day school work though as long as I see they are managing their schedule well enough and year end doing reasonably and no alerts or warnings from school like some that I heard of.

I am glad for positive peer influence so far. Work and play.

lazygal's daughter AL 5 (D) is only PSLE score, at age 12.

When she go Secondary school, is a different ball game altogether.

Are NJC subject Teachers, teaching lazygal daughter's class, from Sec 1 all the way to JC2, for ALL the subjects, good ?
      We don't know.
What if, unfortunate (touch wood), her class get assigned to some lazy subject teachers, and if Principal don't watch out for lazy teachers around, .... ?

How about the Principal at NJC now, good or not, we also don't know. P got to prove herself, with so many pair of eyes looking at her. Only time can tell, perhaps?

Yes, been through Cheng, Ang, and now 2023 under Tay.

Still some years for us to go.

      Today is year 2023

      2023 minus 2015, equal 8 years.

8 years back was quite sometime, ago. Things have changed !

8 years, is close to one decade (10 years). No longer the same anymore, esp. when school leader changed ?

Yes I understand not one child. But lazy gal is concerned about her one child. Would her child who is already foundationally so good academically not continue to do well unless so affected by cohort? There is personal pride and ability and image right? I don't think the kids there now are a big lazy group though. One big difference now though is no comparative statistics are shown on reports other than grade scores for wholistic reasons so we also just need to trust our child and look at it as a full 6 year journey as advised.

For an A level cohort of less than 500 I think any shift of a small number will affect the percentage significantly compared to over 1000 in RI(JC).

      phankao,

      If not wrong,
recalled that your son graduated from NJC quite some time back ?
      Not recent ?

Go and read reddit forum, the students comments themselves.
The standard of NJC no longer the same as In the past.

By the way, we are not talking about your son one person standard alone. We are talking about the OVERALL entire COHORT A level performance

      Year 2015.

How the child thrives is individual. Many of the same good teachers are still around so much so the older even said hi during ptm. The small cohort and class sizes are plus points for us compared to the premier level schools, which the younger also qualified for. Academically the child is sound, so was happy to see positive development socially , in responsibility and independence, and other areas which I feel is important in growth and my retirement as parent. Has no tuition other than ... Sadly... Chinese which is not our daily language of communication.

hi Panko, that is assuring to hear. may I know which year your child graduated?
i guess A level results before 2020 was still ok, but after that was downhill esp this year. major drop in medium UAS and % of students with RP > 85 also drop drastically this year

Older one entered with less than 250. Graduated in high 80s with local university scholarship.

Personally find even the current environment good for personal growth except so many previous programmes had to be on hold in past 3 years due to covid. Even this year, not all is reinstated yet.

Have read many bad comments on reddit fr ex/ current students ranting abt the standard of teaching and certain departments, and this year dismal results has further confirm my fears...

As former education minister's daughter, I'm sure Lucy Tay will be an interesting watch!

      Yes.

Whenever a new Principal step in or change hands,
      definitely
many pair of eyes will scrutinise her closely, assess, evaluate, in terms of Leadership skills, what will she do next, as head of the JC leading all staff and a few thousands of students, to turn the JC situation around ?

Based on last year 2022 NJC A-level results cohort, born in 2004, National Junior College is NO longer within the Top 5 JCs ranking.

He said she's JH1, meaning Sec 1. I don't see why she can't be one of the top scorers at the end of her 6year journey.

Your daughter born in 2006, aged 17, in JC1 (2023).

If she had accepted DSA CO (NJC) in PSLE year 2018, then no choice, can't turn backwards the clock anymore. Just move forward, hope for the best. Don't regret, because back then in 2018, she has made the best decision for herself, according to circumstances, back then.

Continue to send her for A-level tuition in Bio, GP. She is only in JC1 this year, still got time. You won't know. Continue to support her, emotionally. Continue to encourage her, constantly. Next year (2024 A-level), she may be amongst one of the Top students inside National JC.

My child is in one of the community orchestras and she had 1 sectional out of the 6 months she was there, since in-person rehearsals resumed. So just trying to compare notes across groups.

I think there are limited choices of orchestras for primary school age children. However, once they reach secondary school, the choice will be much wider for them to choose from. My child didn't try for SNYO initially as her school CCA (sports related) is very hectic. Now, even if she can get in, her Sat schedule clashes with the sinfonia rehearsal schedule. :? No chance liao...
So aim for YO šŸ˜„ Saturday afternoon instead. And rehearsals not throughout the year like YS.
