So far as what I know, they would promote you with conditions. On the progress report, it would not state PROMOTE. I cannot remember exactly the words they use. So far, I have not heard of get kick out because of results.octopusmum:
Hi sall
i thought RV's system works as such:
the kids will automatically be in the ip programme once admitted but the school will access the performance closely and if the kid is found to be unsuitable for the IP programme, the school will ask the kid to leave the school as early as in sec 2 but according to the Vice principal, this is v rare.
one forum member said the school will retain the student , not as serious as get kicked out...
i am also confused already.....
As far as I know, most of them actually did not meet the minimum B4 for HMT. They are required to do 剪报 everyday for the whole of this holiday, worksheets and of course other homework.
So far I only know of 1 boy retain for year 1. Most of them did well, there are also cases of GPA 4 ! -

Haha, I am not the advisor.
Yes you are !
You are one of the most helpful parent around, at least for RV ! :thankyou: -

Have you submitted your choice ? -
Hi Justsay
yes, i have. about 15 mins ago....
i have selected RV as the 4 th choice after RI, HCI and NJC.
as what i have mentioned in my post, it was not easy for us to come to this decision ie to go for IP instead of distance. I certainly hope I have made the right decision.
i must agree that daisy has helped a lot esp in telling parents what is the daily routine of a rv student like. as i didn't opt for third language and my son doesn't have external classes , i guess he will have slightly more time than daisy's girl and i must say, i really admire her daughter and her capability to cope so well.
I showed both my husband and my son what daisy wrote cause it is impt to prepare them mentally on what to expect. i didn't know there are 3 days per week for cca, thought was 2 days. i have come up with an idea to shorten the travelling time on long days ie to get ds to take a cab home instead of taking train. hopefully that will help...
thks for all your sharing and advice! they really help loads! -

Hi sall,
Hi Daisy,sall:
Hi carrot, 2 days of CCA school would ends at 6pm. And if your child is taking the 2nd CCA, more time to spend on CCA. The other 3 days, usually ends at 1:30 or 2+. If you child is taking 3rd lang, one of the days would need to go Ghim Moh for it, ends at about 6+pm. One more day is for bonding between the peers support and new students (But I am not sure if they are changing this).

Are you one of the advisers for clueless parents whose kids are going to rv. My girl is starting Y1 in rv next year. She's v keen on badminton and is hoping to get into the sch team. The training will be 3 times a wk and I'm worried her studies may be affected. On the other hand, it is an honour to represent the sch.
For students taking 2 cca, is it 1 day for 1 cca? Then they have to choose 2 cca that does not have training on the same day?
:?
Daisyt's dd is in year 2 going year 3 when school reopens. Since this year, all year 1 students are to take 1 core CCA - 2 days per week and 1 secondary CCA - 1 day (they call it IDP, sports). It is compulsary, unless the core CCA is a sport then the training will be 3 days per week and IDP is not required. Therefore all students are require to stay for CCA 3 days per week.
The students will go for audition when school reopens for all CCAs and school will alocate them according to their strength /talent to match their choices.
As for the day of training, school has set aside Tues and Fri for core CCA and the remaining days are for IDP so there wont be clashes of time.
I am not sure will there be any changes next year though.
Hi Justsay,
Thanks for the explanation.
So all the students will then spend about 8-10 hrs a wk on cca, regardless of the cca chosen? -

I heard from a friend that a handful of RV students in Y4 are taking the GCE O level exam, because they are the weaker lot. So the system is not so merciless as to kick any weak student out. So these weak ones can opt for poly or whatever with the O level cert. -

As I have always said in my previous, stress is due to the transition of primary to secondary. More subjects, more committment in CCA, new environment, new friends. Other than that, after 6 months, things are usually quite settle.
:thankyou: :snuggles:

Hi sall
thks for the infor…no doubt the kids can stay to do their O levels in the school but i am quite sure their self esteem and morale will definitely be affected…
sigh! before psle results r released, we worry whether our kids will do well. after knowing the results, we worry whether they can get into good schools and after they get in, we worry whether they can stay in the programme …now, i can understand why some pple choose not to have kids… -

Do you all drive? On days that he ends after 5pm, maybe ask him to wait awhile, do homework in school to wait for you or dh to fetch him? My ds(not rv lah) ends 5.30pm, 6pm, 7.30pm on 3 days, so his dad will fetch him.
i have come up with an idea to shorten the travelling time on long days ie to get ds to take a cab home instead of taking train. hopefully that will help...
