Cedar Girls Secondary School

It’s more of CCA chooses you than you choose CCA. They will let you fill in the CCA option form, but most of the people I know have never gotten their 1st choice. Some even get put into those CCA that aren’t listed in their choice. Sports CCA given top priority. Means if they see your potential in some sports or other, 90% you will be put into sports. Choir is very very difficult to enter. And the teacher is very very strict.

Hi! I’m new hr and i’m glad i chance upon this wonderful group. Can someone help me on CCA matters pls.
My DD got 252 for her PSLE ths yr. Our 1st choice is Cedar. One of her hobby is reading. She wanted to join LDDS (Drama) and library. My question is;
Is it advisable for her to have 2 CCAs?
How good are ths CCAs in Cedar?

Tks in advance...[/quote]Hello! ELDDS, is made up of two parts, drama and debate. To join this cca, your dd will have to go for both auditions - drama and debate. She will eventually have to choose one to focus on. Both library and ELDDS ccas, are not bad, but it is more on the 'reserved side'. Sports ccas are the niches in Cedar. It is not advisable not to join 2 CCAs, in my view, as it might be quite stressful for your dd. CCAs are more competitive in secondary school, and you have to be quite committed. ELDDS has CCAs on Tue and Fri, about 3 hours each session. During competitions, sessions and training are increased. And for library, I'm not sure because my seniors go in for CCA in different days. -

Do you get to choose your CCA? i understand that Cedar is strong in sports but my dotter hates sports. She wants to be in the choir.
Choir is really really strong in Cedar. Training is tough but the result is there. You get to choose your CCA(: The choir teacher will audition your dd during her first few music classes. She is strict, but quite nice. Idk whether this will happen to your dd, but my audition was - the teacher will play a few notes on the keyboard and then you will have to sing the notes. Something like sight-reading. If you sing the notes correctly the first time, she will proceed on to play another few notes until she is convinced you are good enough, if not she will politely thank you, then you will leave. After you passed everything, she will offer you a place and you will 'confirm' the place - meaning putting choir as first choice when you choose your CCAs. -

read the FAQs on cedar’s website about cedar selecting 50 girls for the VIP at the end of the girls’ sec 2 (in year 2012). Still not quite sure if these 50 girls will go to VJC from 2013 or do these girls stay at Cedar until 2014 and then go to VJC from 2015?
