Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)
-
and the year’s top scorer of 282 is in 1P
from the name lists I saw, all the names in 1Q do take HCL
however quite a large number in 1A is doing CL/ML but a few are doing HCL.
in ALL the other classes, they are either doing HMT or are exempted (few of them)
the school says the mix of students in each class is to ensure a similar average t-score for every class, as they reminded the students that PSLE is over (history) and everyone starts from the same starting line
probably the only ranking / differentiation is 3 categories :
Class A
Class B to H
Class I to Q -
Hi parents of Rafflesians! I am a new year 1 and I am in 1M. Just to give an idea, I noticed that almost all the people in 1M are very good in Mathematics (as in the olympiad kind). Four of the six students who represented Singapore in maths in the International Maths and Science Olympiad held in Jakarta are in 1M. Also, 1A is for all the sports DSA applicants. 1Q consists of people who are good in music and art. There is a mix of GEPers and non-GEPers in classes I-Q.

This is not necessarily true. I have a friend who is in 1Q and takes HCL and scored 265
Understand that 1Q do not take higher MT. There are also not too many high scorer in the gepers. If there are, they are put there for special programs like science or maths. There are one or two classes specified for the special programs. One of my DS primary school classmates who score 270 and above was not team with the GEP. -

My DS is in 1H and in their class the scores range from 266- 268.
1D is also a Sports DSA class. His former Primary school classmate is in 1D, but I think in that class the scores of the DSA students are on the higher side.
I am sure there is some underlying theory on the basis of which the kids have been assigned classes and what we, as parents seem to be speculating is not necessarily true. -

My DS is already Year 3 and every year RI change the system. Last year, a group of students from a class who was in a science program called Gallileo Program according to my DS. There are also another group specialize in Maths. This year might be completely different. -

What are the Galileo and Math program about? Is it a pullout class? For Sec 1s or Sec 3s?
