wow laughingcat, u really sound like an expert! i juz started my boy on English GD set.. can i ask for your expert advise..

i just started 2 days ago, so juz beginning to flash single words.. when do i hv to start showing words with pictures behind? i'm following the instructions in the book, it doesn't say to put pictures yet..

First, do you have 2 sets of English? The center recommends you to start showing words with pictures after you are done with the 1st set as a form of enhancement and revision.

The book does not state but I guess we parents have to be a bit imaginative and innovative with the GD programs. 😄

yes i'v got vol.2 as well. So u mean to say after i've finished all the single words in vol.1, i can start showing pictures with vol.2's cards.. ?

Nonono... After you finish Vol 1, continue with Vol 2 flashcards on weekdays only. Weekends, you will start showing pictures for Vol.1 card to your kid.

Enjoy the process and video-cam it. :celebrate:

oh i see. Thanks so nvr brainkid! . Which means i can start preparing early now… Start looking for pictures to paste behind the words of vol. 1… Or any other suggestion? Paste on a separate blank flashcard?

            Hello mumilicia,

Brainkid is correct that we need to be flexible. There is no one size fix all especially when comes to children.

After a few rounds, there is no hard and fuss rule.

I just flash as much as possible on words card for the first 3 months. Once you noticed that your child is able to see clearly at arm length. That is the time you need to work very hard.

For my Ist boy, he is very calm and have the \"anything also can\" attitude, I flash more words for him. Only started the encyclopedia flashcards at age 6 mth old.

As for my 2nd boy, he is more active and his attention span is rather short. So I need to have something for almost every session. For him, I will flash words (english and chinese and pictures as well) for each theme.

For both kids, I will flash about 10 different themes. You need to gauge your child to see what is best fit.

i see i see, thanks for the tips! 😄

Yeah u're right laughingcat, i guess have to be flexible and do it our own way. coz i tried out the GD method (5 sets, 3 sessions for each set), i realised that its hard for me to complete total of 15 sessions in a day.. and instead of juz flashing 5 cards per session, i find that i could actually go on with more sets at the same time, rather than spread thru out the day. coz my son seems to enjoy each session but they were way too fast and short with juz 5 cards and then i waste the day away in the end also, coz i can't complete all sessions in a day

Hi, the GD program sounds very interesting!

May I know how much is the GD program? Is it conducted at Sin Ming? Someone approached me at the baby fair, but did not tell me the fees unless I attend the trial. I have a 13 month old baby but do not know whether it’s too late to start now.

                  Hi Yamdrink,

Yes. It is the one at Sin Ming Road but I think they are moving to a new premise soon. It cost about $600++ for each Language (English, Chinese, Malay)…Maths also about the same price.
I guess you can look at buying cards from some of the parents who are selling at the forum. GD Program Singapore only charges you the cards. The teaching is done by you. They give you the instructions.

Well, they do not encourage parents to start GD late, esp after 1year old. That is because of the child would have learn to walk and crawl and may run away at each flashcards session. I do not find this to be true. You can make some flashcards yourself and teach your 13 month. If he/ she is receptive, I do not find it a problem NOT to do GD Program.

Wah, S$600++? That's so many times more expensive than the WinktoLearn Chinese and English that I used for my son with great success. Real photos with big words on flashcards that are already automated in the DVD.

After you are almost done with the flashcards, you should move on to books. Books that are following the similar concept. Simple sentences in big font and photos on the following page (not same page as the words). The Dolman book recommends that parents make simple books that relate to the Baby's Life. Eg. a book on \"My Family\", can show photos of various members of the family...like \"This is my father.\"(1st page), followed by real-life photo of father(2nd page), then \"This is my mother\"(3rd page)....photo of mum(4th page), \"She is my grandmother\".(5th page),....photo of granny(6th page), and so on...

there will be many many books you can make for your child to help reinforce his learning. Themes for books like:
                        - My House
                        - My School
                        - Trip to the Zoo
                        - Trip to the Botanic Gardens
                        - I love Swimming
                        - Going to the Playground
                        - Bus Ride
                        - MRT Trains
etc, etc...whichever is your child's favourite subject will give him greater interest in reading , especially when he sees the real-life photos. Even better if he's in the photos! And it'd enhance his reading progress.
