Uh... I heard of I Can Read before. But we didn't use it. My 3rd grader has been using beestar for reading and writting. The weekly worksheets are full of vivid pictures and interesting stories, very helpful for kids thinking, pretty cool!

Maybe you guys want have a try. :celebrate:

Among the 4 centres listed in the title, I would strongly recommend TAS. My children have been there for slightly over a year. They have improved in their studies and also they are much more motivated to read and learn. Should try their english and science programmes. My children took both eng and science there. My eldest is no longer there as he is in secondary 1. I have stopped all tuition for him as he is rather busy now and he seems to be coping fine. But his form teacher was pleasantly surprised at his results at PSLE, which I also attribute to TAS.

Hi ccgoh, thanks for sharing. Seems like a glowing review of TAS! I like to read about feedbacks and break them into chunks. Here's my take on your feedback of TAS in Bold text below... Please correct me if I am wrong.

            ccgoh:
My kids are at TAS, I like them for the following reasons:

            TEACHER QUALITY
            1) Teachers know how to engage them, they come back from lessons motivated to read the storybook the teacher recommends or to learn something the teacher asks them to

            MATERIAL QUALITY
            2) good teaching methods, my kids start to like writing and compre because they are taught the tools to tackle these components

            MATERIAL QUALITY
            3) Clear grammar rules taught, my kids write down the grammar rules in white index cards and from what i have seen, they are very clear, it helps me to understand grammar better as well

            CENTRE SERVICE
            4) Teachers and admin staff like children, they always greet the children very happily and are interested to know more about our children

            CENTRE SERVICE
            5) They take our feedback seriously, I told them about the tables being too small for the new place for one class- the children sit on chairs with little tables attached. This week, when I went down, they had gotten long tables to replace them. They said they changed them because they agreed that it was too difficult for children to handles the small confined space. So while they may not change everything to suit a parent, if your feedback is valid, I think they will look into it.
Furthermore, is the place conveniently located? And most importantly, is it value-for-money?

            Thanks for sharing again!

British Council is a definite NO NO.

My daughter attended ICR from N2 to K1 and she was in the I Can Read Level Book 4 when we decided to drop. Reason for drop : We both found it a struggle just to read the passages. So no point i thought.

Then we signed her up British Council from K2 until now (P1). British Council is more of enrichment. So if you are looking for tuition, maybe BC is not that suitable. I am coaching my daughter english at home using assessment books via the structured approach while i let her attend BC just for general enrichment.

IMHO, the class size is too large; between 22 to 25 students in a class and the syllabus is totally not related to MOE.

Can’t comment for ICR. My kids did J&E for phonics. Solid program.

They were with BC for 2 years (P2 and P3). Just find that it’s not academic enough. This year, I swopped them to Lcentral and so far it appears to be alot more academic, grammar exercises, compre and compo, etc… can’t tell for exam results yet as they are only sitting for CA1 this wekk. But it’s definitely alot more academic as compared to BC.

I’ve another K2 with LW creative english. Helps with reading and her word recognition. But I intend to switch her to Lcentral in the near future.
