jeanieg, u can only register in one school at one time for each phase. If u qualify under 2B for MGS, u cannot register in the second choice school as a PV since PV is also under phase 2B.

IF u are unsuccessful after balloting in MGS under phase 2B, u would be under phase 2C already, so no use doing PV in second choice school. Unless u want to give up the balloting chance in MGS altogether. I think staying 1-2km of MGS under phase 2B should at least have a chance to ballot.

Thanks Luanee, for putting into words what i am trying to get at.
At this moment, we are unsure if jeanieg is refering to doing pv in another school so that she can have an alternative choice besides MGS in Phase 2B when she refers to 'second choice school'.

jeanieg, if you do not want to risk undergoing balloting in MGS, your church affiliations may get you a higher chance in St Anthony based on past stats - do bear in mind however that St Anthony is a dual session sch and by 2012 they may be shifting elsewhere (permanent or holding) and even cut down on intake - it is anyone's guess.

Thank you so much for all your input and advice. Sorry if I was unclear... sometimes I myself get all mixed up with all the phases!

Ok let's see if I can explain my intentions here... Since MGS does not accept PV so I guess I will be under Phase 2c right (I live 1-2km away)? I will register and go through balloting. I am just thinking IF I do not get a place in MGS what will be a good 2nd backup to register? St Anthony or Keeming? Once it's decided which, I can go do PV now or next year so I fall under Phase 2B right, thereby increasing my chances? Or am I wrong... I also blur :?:

        jeanieg,
i am assuming that you are NOT going to register in Phase 2B under Church affiliations.
Phase 2B registration precedes Phase 2C. So if you fail in getting a seat in MGS Phase 2C, you cannot go back to use pv's privilege under Phase 2B for registration in either Keming or St Anthony cos Phase 2B is already over.
You can however, register in Keming or St Anthony first in Phase 2B, then when its phase 2C's registration day, monitor the probability of success rate in MGS. Then by the last day of Phase 2C registration, to decide if you want to withdraw from Keming/St Anthony (which you had register in Phase 2B) to have a chance at balloting in MGS. In this case, if you failed in MGS, you also cannot go back to Keming/St Anthony, cos you had withdrawn from there - they will also probably not have any more seats in Phase 2C supp based on past stats.

If you do PV for St Anthony's or Keming, it qualifies you for 2B. However, if you decide to try your luck for 2C at MGS, then Phase 2B has passed and you cannot go back and claim 2B privileges at the schools you have done PV at. Cold comfort, I know, but it is the conundrum parents face this time of year (at least those without golden passports 😉 ).

            jeanieg:
Hi, was wondering if anyone may wanna give their advice or opinions about my dilemma...

DD1 will enter pri 1 in 2012. 4 schools (as verified by LTA) within 1-2km are:
            MGS
            Pei Hwa
            Keming
            Bukit timah

MGS does not accept PV so will go by faith and prayers and still try for 1st choice. Now am thinking of 2nd choice school (since may need to do PV if it is a popular school). Heard/read good stuff about St Anthony's (which is not that far from me as I am in Upper Bkt Timah) as well as Keming. Considering CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace. Am not so keen on Pei Hwa... Which school do you think I should try to focus on for my 2nd choice? Would appreciate advice given. Much Thanks.
CHIJ Lady Queen of peace...Those between 1-2km still have good chances compared to those outside 2km

Hi Little_Princess, for PEPS, I think the chance for Phase 2C balloting for <1km is very high, as shown in the past 3 years.. since you are between 1-2km, the chance is very high that they might turn you away and ask you to try somewhere else..meaning you will not even get a chance to ballot...

I would suggest you decide on an alternative school and monitor your chances there instead...

Also note that, this year they have 240 intake instead of 270 intake last year and at Phase 2A already 40% takeup rate...

Yes, I am trying to look at others as well. What about Raffles Girls? I am outside 2km.

Hi, Raffles Girls will still earn you a chance to ballot even though you are outside 2km. But I guess you will still have to keep monitoring the next week very closely...[/quote]Thanks RRmummy....I will have to keep track of so many things...Best part, hubby wont be in town! :faint:

I have a question…Can I get someone else to do withdrawal for me at Sch A should I decide to register at School B at the very last moment for 2c because my hubby wont be in town. The schools are far away from each other and I am afraid of being late. Thinking of filling up withdrawal form first for Sch A, get my SIL to wait there for my call. If I decide to drop SCh A, can she just hand in the completed form for me?

maybe you can call up MOE to find out if your SIL can help for withdrawal... ..and hopefully someone here with similar experience can share..

                    Good luck! :xedfingers:

He has a proxy letter from his friend which would allow him to register on his behalf.

I am not sure whether MOE allows this since only one parent is out of town for your case. Safest way is to check with MOE, and with the school as well. And yes, pls fill in the withdrawal form with all the signatures required earlier. You would be so nervous by then to fill in anything.
