Newton Kindergarten

Hi DesertWind
Just my personal opinion.
1) Newton Kindy is more organised as compared to St James.
2) In Newton, each kid has their own bag compartment and the classroom is more neat and clean.
3) St James has alot of "play" activities which is good, eg, need to remember to wear T-shirt attire for Mon, Tues and Friday. Need to bring swimming costume and extra towel on Friday cos there will be water play. Unfortunately my mum is taking care of 4 grandchildren who studied different schools hence its difficult for her to remember
4) Newton focuses Chinese more, which i advocate to that idea as well since i find Chinese pretty hard to learn
5) I find that the students at Newton are more disciplined

hi octbride, so far heard of a fair number of kids transfer in from other pre-schools often at beginning N2, in the middle or end of K1 level are coming from pre-schools like … St James, Marymount, Barker road methodist, Thomson road Baptist, Far Eastern church kindy, Singapore Montessori, etc.
Em, Jazz and MummyThreeStreams, 3 of you can pm one another, my guess is … 3 of you may be from same class. kekekekeke -
common reason given is … they want more Chinese !

hi Desertwind, heard your child from Marymount N2 this year ? can share with us what topic is your child currently learning this Term ?

-
hi,
a) any idea when does spelling start ? is it mid K1 / end K1 or beginning K2 ?
definitely by K2 Term 1, kids already started spelling. Because i saw K2 kids sitting inside the school bus, taking out small booklets of spelling to learn for the week. Each week, they learn to spell 5 new words.
b) heard K1 got homework every weekend. Teachers give out homework assignments every Friday, pupils need to submit homework to Teachers on Monday. Perhaps any K1 or K2 parent can share … what kind of homework, or when does spelling start ? -

hi octbride, it’s ok to ask – not OT, because we are all Newton parents here. At Newton thread, we wish to learn from the precious experience of one another, as well as from parents who had gone before us. It can be on any topic for our kids concerned. For me, I am currently a trial and error method mother.
Yes, I am also thinking of CMA mental maths to help our child in primary school later… erh… how come we both think alike of CMA concurrently ? kekekekeke Last time the admin lady from one Toa Payoh CMA branch i visited told me - if your child is around 4 years old, if your child can hold pencil, can write 0 to 9, then can start CMA.
I got a friend whose 4.5 year old son enjoys CMA so much! He told his mom he finds it intellectually very stimulating and challenging, to practise CMA abacus. Before that, his mum ever brought him to Kumon Maths before, but he din like - said boring, keep repeating similar worksheets after worksheets. He told his mom stop Kumon for him.
However, I also have another friend whose 5 year old son don’t mind doing A5 size paged Kumon Maths worksheets everyday at home. He doesn’t mind the repetitive style. His mom said his Maths has improved a lot, and has helped to discipline her son, be more focused. Last time he like to run around actively. So I believe every child learns differently. Best is to see which style suits your child best.
Em, Jazz, MummyThreeStreams, octbride, DesertWind, smurf, Mimama, kerbaya, Jazzychloe, phtthp, 25hrmaid, lil_jade, Bigdevil, yamdrink, moom, autumnbronze, durianbei, mum05, laughingcat, auntieM, are your kids into - Montessori Maths, Kumon, MPM, CMA or any other Maths enrichment before ? how you feel ? how about other parents here ?
