I have 2 girls (twins born in 2005). Currently, we are evaulating our options for Primary school.


We have already confirmed the distance from SLA website.
Chongfu - 1~2km
Northland - 1~2km (from my parent’s place)

I’m actually very keen in CF as I feel that the chinese tradition is important. But Northland is also not bad as well.

2 things I’m concerned about:
1) Can i apply PV for the 2 schools?
1) When should I join PV?
2) Does my twins actually stand a better chance when it comes to ballot?

I am choosing school for my child born in 2004. At this moment, I am skewed towards chongfu over northland for the folowing reasons:


1. Chongfu is stronger in Chinese and I believe most good student can score well in Maths and Science but it is the languages that give the ace student the edge over the rest. Students who does well in their languages, especially Chinese, tends to do better in terms of score.

2. Chongfu school's physical environment is better. I have visited both school during the PV meet up and I find the physical environment of Chongfu much better than Northland. Chongfu appears to be bright and airy while Northland has more dark corners.

3. Chongfu has good results in their table tennis team. Dun underestimate the possibiity of DSA , had a colleague whose daughter is good in table tennis....DSA to Nanyang Girls...

4. Well this is bias but I dun like the Northland teacher (yah just that one teacher) that we met during the PV session...so stuck up...whereas Chongfu...the principal was there too...they areso sincere....

So for now....Chong fu is a clear choice...will only change if SNGS select us for PV.....

1) Yes.
2) Now. Last closing date is mid 2010 but some schools start early.
3) Twins count as one chance, either both get in or both don't.

Chongfu just called me up to say that I qualify for Phase 2B registration and to go for Jul 21 registration. However I live more than 2km so will require balloting Balloting date this year will be on Jul 24 2pm. Not sure what's my probability but if dont try, chance is zero right? If I am successful, I will open a new thread Chongfu 2009 Cohort to share my kid's Chongfu experience as well as parents' networking from the same kid age group !

Good luck radiantmum! At least you get a chance to ballot in Phase 2B. Not many get that chance if they are staying beyond 2km of the school for Phase 2B.

Good Luck! If I may ask, did you qualify via clan or PV? and if clan, how long have you joined SHHK?

Sure, happy to contribute - ‘cos I can certainly understand parents’ anxiety.


I qualified via SHHK. My membership was accepted in 2005 which means 4 years tenure. No other SHHK activities. Hope that helps.

Per balloting stats, those stay within 1km will not require balloting for CF. Wonder how many subsequent balloting places left for those >2km and the # of applicants in that category for last year? Anyone knows?

2009 End Phase 2B CF results out : 96 applicants for 80 vacancies. Statistics looks promising end of Phase 2A2 which had approx 5% less applicants but sob sob above statement no longer valid- - applications suddenly \"overrun\" by more than 20% (past years only approx 15%). 16 pair of parents will be disappointed ... hopefully I am not the one (sorry, system forces me to be selfish -yaks!). By the way, I had been informed that in 2008 balloting >2km, it was 36 vying for balance 30 places.

Interestingly, I thought Nanyang Primary manages their phase 2B application numbers/PV control really well this year. Numbers applied = numbers available, hence no balloting is required. Certainly more humane

& for those of you whom are interested to know, SHHK recommended 26 people for CF this year (PS: unofficial, I peeked or rather it's just in front for me to see). All SHHK registration is only in day 2 for CF. So it should be 71+26 = 97. 1 missing or simply change mind and drop out soul here, bless him/her :celebrate: .

Friday is THE day! Honestly, why does MOE have to subject parents through such unncessary stress I wonder? Why can't they administer primary school allocation like secondary's ie 1 phase indicating 1st, 2nd etc choices of school?

On the positive note, I had not been this excited for quite a while. Geez, if ever I get hook on lottery chances aka \"vice\", it's all kick start by P1 Registration :rahrah:
