    • RE: Yamaha Special Junior Advanced Course - Discussion

For some reasons revisited this thread n cant believe it is still alive 😁. Time flies.

JSAC is definitely much faster speed than JXC.

My take as a parent whose kid has completed both JSAC & SSAC courses.

      1. If selected, go for it!
      2. Children selected usually have a natural flair in music. Do not need special preparation prior selection or i think even if managed to get in, will have a hard time completing.
      3. Practising and composition submission pieces get more challenging as they move up their school academic level for sure but becomes second nature to them generally.
      4. Becoming second nature is possible only when kids genuinely like or love music, not something you can force upon. Naggings as i understand is also second nature to most parents through the courses 😁
      5. With the variety of music components trained, i noticed kids have an edge esp in completing higher level music exams. I believe this edge differentiation stems from aural, improvisation and arrangement trainings which you dont get as much if kids just focus on playing simply exam pieces per grade.
      4. I appreciated Yamaha's aural training most ie play any pieces without scores just by hearing. This is not the case i notice for most other kids even when they pass abrsm grade 8 which personally i think is a great pity.
      5. Choice of piano vs electone? If clock unwinds, will still opt for electone first. Electone focuses on musicality, piano focuses on technicality. Musicality, like hearing, golden period of training seems when they younger. Once you miss it seems like either u have it or u dont. Technicality on the other hand gets better as older, well at least their palms are bigger n stretches wider 😁

At the end of the day, let your kid decides.

Contributing back to this thread n hope it helps !

Sounds lonely. Isnt IB English same for all IB schools? Just curious why tuition centres need to differentiate school?

Yr 4 promo is different & harder than previous years?

This IB international results released recently. Is it they sit a final year exam like A level or it’s a cumulative assessment as in school results tdy?

wow...drop quite a bit. My elder is in Sec 4 IP and my young one going in Sec 1 next year.

      2018's figure was 244 and 253.
Anyway ACSI also fluctuated at 250 and 254 compared to 2018's 249 and 256.[/quote]You meant last yr's 2017's? Was taken aback at this low IP COP despite stellar results close to ACS recent batch also.

In any case PSLE scores doesnt mean anythg at all, might hv some correlation on the top 5% as they will likely to continue to score without much efforts in academics, the rest is history. I was told 260+ stuggling with academic promotion criteria as well.

But everything else being equal, the higher quality of students tend to get better results. That is not the impressive part. The impressive part is how you get the rest of cohort to shine.

I know it happens in Sec 3, not too sure if sec 3 can or not. We transferred school due to CCA and new housing reasons.

Most Secondary schools evaluate students at the end of Sec 2 for IP eligibility. The student must do pretty well by the end of Sec 2 to be considered.

Yes, lots of applicant hopefuls but very limited vacancies.
