I used to eat Royal Umbrella rice until i discovered Royal Golden Grain Premium Fragrant Rice which is available in Sheng Siong. It is the best rice so far and it is cheaper than royal umbrella.

Sounds like a good tip. So the dried chilli is the type you use to cook gung bao ji ding is it?

Yes, I think so, those quite large dried chilli, just put a handful of those on top of the rice in the rice bin. Can try if you got rice bugs problem and let us know if it helps!

To remove the chewy texture, I soak the mixed rice grains in the rice cooker for 1-2 hours before cooking. The cooked grains are softer like white rice.

Yes, this is certainly a good way to cook the brown rice, to soak it first!

I used to purchase NTUC House brand Brown rice. But after several purchases, I found the taste of rice differed after cooking. Not sure if it had anything to do with the quality of rice packed.

After trying several brands of Brown Rice, I stumbled upon this brand - See Hoy Chan Grade A Thai Hom Mali Brown Rice - and have been using that ever since. The taste is heavenly and my DH, DS and helper agree as well. The only drawback is that I can only find this in Cold Storage NEX and its pretty exp @ $9.45 for 2.5kg. So if anyone is familiar with this brand and got lobang to get it cheaper, please share share.

For those who like Basmati rice, you can try Red Mill brown basmati rice. Its delicious.

Hi, See Hoy Chan is selling at $8.50 for 2kg. Please see http://www.seehoychan.com.sg/webtop/OrderForm/
But you'd have to place order for 10kg of rice. Think delivery is free.

Does it take away the 'raw' taste?
