Kids Haircut

My 2½ yrs old cries loudly whenever I bring him for a haircut, after I let my hairdresser (she uses scissors only) cut his hair, he did not cry anymore. I then realized that he is afraid the sound of the clipper that most hairdresser or barber use.


But too bad, my hairdresser doesn’t work anymore after she gave birth, I wish I can find a similar hairdresser so that no more crying when he’s having a haircut.

Anyone can recommend a hairdresser who use scissors to cut boy’s hair? really appreciate.

What about trying at Toys R Us? I’m sure they are good at handling kids. I’ve seen so many kids sitting there patiently and having their hair cut.

Yes, there is a hairdresser at Toy R Us at united square specialist for children. I forgot the shop name. They let the kids watching video like Barney or Hi-5 while they do the cutting. And when they finished cutting they will give balloon, sweet n sticker to the kids. My kids enjoy cutting their hair there. But now they r older, I never go there anymore. The price is not cheap. The last time I cut, 2 yrs ago, it costs $18.

I also sent my DS to the barber at Toy R us for almost 2 years till I gave it up as it is really quite expensive.. around $18 per cut. I have also tried other children barbers in the past such as the one at Parkway parade (3rd flr?) & Suntec (near the exit of Toy R Us). Actually it is not necessary as later I found out that my DS do allow the traditional barber near my place to cut his hair at $5 only.. of course initial he resisted but it is ok after that. Again persistence is the answer. :lol:

But not my son. Cried until the whole store cld hear him. But that was when he's arnd 1.5 years old.
Brought him to a normal salon, cried as usual but when he was slightly bigger, he's able to sit properly and let hairdresser style his hair. He's 3 years old now.

I bring my boys to those $10 express haircut places. Some have those kiddy rides in the store, and your kid can sit on it while getting his hair cut (of course the ride will not be on).

I’ve been to the $10 express haircut and normal salon, all use clipper to cut, once he hear the sound only he will start to cry and struggle. I feel very embarrassing when people are looking.


Mummies here ever met any hairdresser who use scissors to cut your childrens’ hair? Pls let me know.

As for Toys R Us, I find the price quite steep for children cut, anyway if they don’t use clipper I will give it a try, anyone can confirm this?

My 26mth boy had a breakthru recently when he had his hair cut ($9) at Sri Nada (Malay barber chain at shopping centres like Parkway Parade and Compass Point) without any fuss. Think the trick is he watched me as I had my hair cut first and he wanted the same.


Before that we had to bring him to Junior League (chain of hair saloon for kids) where they play kids programme (like Barney or Thomas the Engine) while they cut his hair. Then at the end of it he gets a sticker sheet. But very expensive at $20 but that was the option option where he would not cry and move his head all over.

Supercut also have hair cut service for kids (I know Compass Point has) where they play kids program while they cut too. But its more expensive at $24.

I bring my kids to neighbourhood barber shop, $6 per cut. She use both scissor and clipper. Think you can always request the person to use scissor. I thought they are trained to use scissor to cut hair and the clipper is just used to finish up?

Oh ya, for my bb, I just use a big bowl, put it on her head and cut according to the bowl's shape. Free. :lol: The older kids, I bring them to barber, don't want them to have bowl styled hair to kindy :lol:
