First day of primary school

I kind of like the school actually, teachers r real strict. Its a boys school(Catholic High) & class size is about 30 average.
Wow, it seems like more work for the parents than the kid. Mine is going into primary school in 3 years time, I suppose I need to prepare myself for such shock. How is this primary school that your son is attending?
1st day, after orientation, the boys were told to draw something they like about the school
2nd day, the boys started to learn the do's & don't in school/Class
3rd day, bring a picture of themselve & talk about their hobbies etc.
My son should settle in well cos he attended full day sch since 2 years old, the only concern i've, is the pace for catching up with the lesson's/homework. -

You think that's bad huh? That's just the appetizer. Soon you are going to have to deal with Chinese TingXie - same deal - 10 words or phrases per week.
And then you have to deal with Show & Tell, where children will be graded in terms of content, presentation, and delivery (exact breakdown of grading provided). For BOTH Chinese and English. You think the kids can do it by themselves and hope to pass? No way Jose. Parents are EXPECTED to help the kids with all these learning and preparations.
So you tell me... can parents afford not to find ways of helping their kids (and themselves)?

i want to do that very much for my boy's upcoming first day in P1 next year, but am worried about the strange stares from other parents.

Stares? Don't worry, everyone else will be too busy doing the same thing as you, ie. video recording, photo-taking, or gesturing to their kids to pay attention to the teachers.engwhatt:

My girl be going to P1 in Jan 2009, dont think I would bring camera to take her pics in school, most probably just do so at home in her uniform. Else wont it be kind of distracting? She would keep looking at me instead of the teacher. And I wonder would the school allow parents to stand outside the classroom or banish all of us to the gates? We just got the booklist and uniform order form yest… -

The 1st couple of days in Primary 1 are probably the only time parents are actually allowed to stand outside the classroom for the rest of their child's schooling days. On the first 2 days of sch, parents are not allowed to be outside classrooms or any place nearby. You are only allowed to be in the canteen. And when the children are having recess, you have to make way for them and stay outside of the canteen. -
