With the sentence above, I believe the system still needs additional tweaking. 2A/2B in my opinion should not be abolished. However, there should be a limit set for 2A. Places after Phase 1 should be apportioned too, accordingly with Phases 2B/2C. Number of years stayed at the location should also be taken into account and highlighted clearly by MOE (on their website).ChiefKiasu Wrote
4. And finally, there's the question of practicability. It wouldn't make sense for a child who stay at one end of the country spend hours travelling to a school on the other end of the country. Singapore may be small, but not that small.
I understand the need for ex-students wanting to send their kids to their old school but if you are living so far away then it would not be healthy. Yes by all means send your kid to your ex-school BUT if the school is in Bishan and you live in Bedok ...
I live next to CHS (50m away) and every morning theres a jam 1km long from all directions for parents dropping off their children to school. I intend to send my son to that school next year but with 27 places left for Phase 2C there seems to be little hope. Where's the logic in me having to send my son to another school 2km away. BTW I have been living there for 11 years, way before my son was born.
Change is a constant. The system is not the best that we have.
I agree with your comment. Its time to consider giving more prioirty to kids who stay nearby. -
Dear Parents,
What’s e chance of 2C <less than 1 km? Any idea about last year?
Thanks! -

These are the average APP for Phase 2C for schools in Serangoon from 2006-2008.Dear Parents,

Thanks! The lower the average deviation, the more certain the average APP are. Rosyth's 68% average deviation indicates that there is a high probability that Rosyth's APP will fall in the range of 340% +- 68%. The good news is that there is a definite downward trend in demand for Rosyth through the years, and especially so for this year in Phases up to Phase 2B, so it is possible that it may go below 200% this year.CHIJ OLGC 115% (Average deviation: 3%)Rosyth 340% (Average deviation: 68%)St Gabriel’s 83% (Average deviation: 14%)Yangzheng 63% (Average deviation: 3%)

Cartier,
The principal mentioned begining this yr that Rosyth will be having single session by 2015. Still long way to go … but noticed they are transiting into this arrangement by cuting down 1 class every yr … yr before 360, last yr 330, this yr 300 … -
should you child fail to register with GEP school, you can train him / her now and ensure good scores in GEP test. If he/she has good marks in GEP test (first round), you still can ‘negotiate’ with GEP schools for school transferring even he/she fails in the test of second round.

Dear SunnyBoy, we do not advise parents to train their children to get into a GEP school. It may do more harm than good to the child. By all means do what you can to encourage your child to get good grades for P1. This will already put the child in a good position for 'negotiating' with the school you are targetting. -

Hi Chief,

I don't think there is really a downwards trend in demand for Rosyth. It seems more of the school drastically cutting the quota for Parents PV resulting in much fewer applicants in phase 2B. This year for example, they are only recruiting 20 PVs out of 140 PV applicants. That means the rest is up to \"active community leaders\" and it is a safe guess that there will not be a lot of \"active community leaders\".
Not possible to analyse trends for Phase 1 up to Phase 2A2 as it is very subjective. Subject to whether parents have more children to join their elder sibling in the same school and subject to whether the alumni or ex-students have married and given birth to children and happen to still stay around serangoon north area and wish to let their children join their alma mater school.
It seems that the school is indeed gradually cutting no. of students to prepare for the \"migration\" to single session by 2016.
Just my thoughts.
Best Regards,

Hi, is the avg APP solely based on the app by parents who are <1km for Rosyth. I note that there are 80 vacancies available for phase 2C, one of the highest to date, and am expecting 2X the no of application.

I think you are right. For Rosyth this year, likely to ballot within 1km, and with a 1 in 2 chance. -
