All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers
-
Just to share…my elder daughter was with NAFA violin for a year when she was 5. I felt that it was more parents learn in class and teach the child at home. I practically forced my child to practice for 30 min to 1 hour everyday, depending on how fast she could memorise the piece. Some parents even resorted to engaging external violin teacher to teach her child.
Well, she was the top few who played better than her peers. However, I felt that I was killing her interest. I actually wanted her to build a strong foundation in violin playing and enjoy and appreciate music, not to become some child prodigy. At that time, I didn’t think it was stressful for her as she was still blur blur… but it was me who felt the stress. Imagine me after work, came home late and all tired, after dinner and everything, needed to teach her violin till 11 or 12pm!
I don’t think a child could master technique in such a short span of time unless they’re like Mozart or something. I didn’t want her to play for the sake of getting grade 8 by P5/6, such that in the end, she didn’t enjoy playing the instrument or even worst, detest and not touch the instrument ever again because of the painful and unhappy learning process. So, I discontinued after a year and put her in a “normal” violin learning environment.
However, I must not deny that that year of hot housing did make her play the violin well, but a lot of problems with technique needed to be corrected and addressed now. -
After so many discussion, I found Nafa is really a good piano school. I heard the matriculate rate is quite low, is around 20% of the registration. Hope I can get the chance then.

Yup totally agree. That’s why most of them doesn’t touch the instrument after completing grade 8. The child can’t possibly learn that much during lesson. That is why parent have to sit in to coach them at home to prepare for the next lesson.
However, the teachers there really impart good skills, so if the child can take it, why not. But if they can’t then better withdraw or they will kill the interest and it will be a waste. -
Yup really hope your child can get in. But do monitor your child interest

Other schools which is good is Yamaha, as they screen their teachers very strictly.
If your child can't get through the audition, come back to me. I will recommend you another school which they have one teacher who trains like in nafa. He was actually head hunted by nafa but he refuse to leave the school. Or you can get other well know professors who teaches nafa diploma students. -
