It’s so sad to hear this… whenever my kids are in the pool, I make sure I will try to be there with them.

happen to come across a true incident. happens @ safra yishun swimming pool.
this mummy was so engrossed on her ipad, sitting under the shades while her 2 DDs were playing abt in the shallow side of the pool.
how i know those 2 were her DD? cos they climb out of the pool on & off to bite a piece off ther sandwich their mum was holding onto.
i sat beside the mum & was watching these 2 gals munching away. ( donch worry, there were 4 adts watching over 4 kids in my family inside the pool). i was out of the pool taking fotos.
suddenly, one of her gal jumped into the waters, missed her footing & slipped under waters. her mum was unaware of all these happening until i shook her, telling her abt her gal.
she dashed across & jumped into the pool. luckily the little one was alright, except choking non stop & crying. she must be frightened off. poor little thing.
dunno what the mummy is so engrosssssssssed in on her ipad....

You mean her 2 DD cannot swim and she still looking at her ipad? She must be crazy.

they were not swimming, just splashing abt by the side. u know in some pools, there's another step just by the side where u can step on.
the little gal ran towards the pool but instead of sitting down & easing herself down gently, she though she can jumped instead, but instead of putting her foot down on the step, she lost her balance & fell forwards into the water. guess she must hv panic & struggled violently. -
I was at a mall yesterday and saw 2 women chatting, their kids were running around the automatic doors right outside the carpark…
these 2 kids were placing their hands in between the automatic doors!!! gosh, mind you, these 2 women looks like in their early thirties but not bothered about what their kids were doing… Faintz…
Parents assume nothing will happen in Singapore but surely it does not consititute to such complacency … Kids might be maturing at a faster rate but nonetheless, they are still kids and as parents, we should be watching out for them… if they are able to fend for themselves, they won’t need us…
Just my thoughts, -
I am not a very good swimmer. When I was in JC, my ECA clubmates went to Desaru (I had to give it a miss) and when they came back, they had a horror story to tell. Apparently 2 good swimmers were almost washed out to sea by strong currents, but they finally managed to swim back to shore after struggling for a long time, totally exhausted.
Since then I have not even swam in any beach at all - only swim in pools - as I know it can be dangerous. Go beach, at most play a bit of water near the shore.
I am surprised that parents can allow kids to swim alone at beaches. -

I do that too when dd started her swimming lesson until now even she had already gotten her gold stars.
I wouldnt dare to move my eyes off from DS even though he knows little bit swimming now.....poppy15:
