Yes…I share Chief Kiasu’s views, drawing from my own P1 registration experience this year. Thus, I’ve given the same advice to my sis who will be registering in 2 years’ time, to go for PV instead, rather than clan membership even though I feel its relatively easier to get a clan membership (as long as you can get the 2 members’ recommendations), compared to PV applications.

        Hi,

To register as PV in Tao nan is not easy as you think, you need to go to balloting in order to become a PV. A few of my friends stay within 1 km of Tao Nan went for balloting in May 2008 this year for child born in 2003, they were not lucky enogh to get balloted as a PV and the only duties as PV in Tao nan is only Traffic Warden. You need to do the duties before and after the school. Can you do it ?

I met a lady who is a Hokkien Clan and she registered at Tao Nan recently and she was not balloted. She went to Kong Hwa yesterday and her chance is very slim because she stay 1 to 2 km of the school.

To registered as a member of Hokkien clan is very easy but that does not mean that confirmed you a space at the school that you want.
Thank you v much for your advice. For me, clan is out since we are not hokkiens...I would go the PV route for Kong Hwa since we have a place within 1km... 🙂

Hi Kiasu2008 - thanks for the headsup on the Tao Nan situtation. It did also cross my mind that there are a whole bunch of new apartments coming in the Telok Kurau area that fall within the 1km range - most TOP Q4, 2010 to Q2, 2011. This will probably add to the number of applications for PV slots, and then Pri 1 places.

need to knw ppl in there or the members there wud have to screen u n recc u in? if u really duno anyone inside how??

hokkien huay kuan no need to b buddhist or watever religion? just hokkien will do??

You need to have members to recommend you into their fold.

You will have to read a 2 page manuscript in front of the clerk in Hokkien to prove your proficiency in Hokkien....

Before you faint... no lah... just pulling your leg. Just show your husband's or your own NRIC during registration. And yes... just Hokkien will do.

You can also use those hokkien words we learn during NS days...

Oh no... that should only be reserved for special occasions such as when you receive the letter telling you that they are not going to recommend you for Phase 2B registration because of yada yada problems.

                    Hi Parents,

Like most of you, I have this intention of joining clan, RC, signing up as parent volunteer etc in order to get into Phase 2B. However the school which I prefer is > 2km from my house. Is it REALLY true that in the group of phase 2B applicant, the school will still sub-categorise them into <1km, <2km>2km. If so, would that mean that chances for category >2km is almost ZERO, especially if it’s a popular school you are applying. Can anyone out there help me to confirm this point…

The worst fear I am having now is that I have to buy a new flat/condo near that school, work as volunteer, join RC and even with all that, it doesn’t GUARANTEE any seat. Am I right !!! … -_-

You asked a lot of questions, but the answer to all your questions is a simple \"YES\". Sigh... sad, isn't it?
