2011 P1 Registration Exercise for 2012 In-Take

in fact, schools should plan 3 yrs ahead in advance.
for better, more proper planning coordination & administration effort to estimate a more reliable figure, we need co-operation from all Phases 1 to 2B, so as to help determine a more realistic number of parent volunteers for acceptance.
3 years ahead before due registration in July 20YY:-
==============================================
a) for Phase 1 siblings - 3 yrs ahead, schools to send out application forms to all parents, indicating clearly whether any sibling(s) from existing current pupils likely to enrol, and enrol for which year 20YY.
b) for Phase 2A - combine all ex alumni (P2A1 and P2A2) members together.
all ex-alumni parents who intend to enrol their child in that particular school, to fill up an application form 3 yrs ahead in advance to alert and notify the school that your child is coming in which year, 20YY.
in each year - all schools to standardize the announcement of a closing date line application of acceptance, to receive back all these incoming ex-alumni application forms for year 20YY.
whether to make it compulsory to make ex-alumni parents pay one time alumni membership fees or not, let the school's alumni committee team decide on this issue.
c) for Phase 2B GRC grassroot leaders, submit ahead 2 yrs in advance to People's Association HQ, indicating the school of choice for yr child.
with reliable figures coming in from sources (a) to (b), schools can receive proper information to work upon. From here, determine how many parent volunteers (PV) can accept realistically for P2B, even if there is a need to cut 1 class. This way, dun turn away any disappointed PV. -
one more thing ... for Phase 1 siblings - on that application form, to indicate if child is SG born citizen or PR kid.
if PR kid, to re-queue AFTER Phase 2C, AFTER all our SG kids had successfully enrolled in.
because if the school accepts 1 PR child, it means 1 SG born citizenship child .... has been denied entry. Not fair to fellow Singaporeans.
we are standing on Singapore soil. Schools must serve the educational needs of ALL SG born citizens first. This is our birth right. -
volcano:
Hi volcano, i intend to put my DD1 in the waitlist if fail in balloting on 22nd July. Thats y i took leave to attend the balloting... :sad:need help.
if 1st choice school failed in phase2B, we need to register for 2nd choice school in 2C right.
If we manage to get into the 2nd choice, can we still wait list in 1st choice school?

Just a note, I thk most schools only start accepting waitlist after phase 2c! Also, not schools accept waitlist! Mine don't n they tell us before the balloting was conducted!!
Oh yah! Try not to bring kiddo down, cos in case didn't get balloted in, the kid might be disappointed! -

actually the idea of "cloning" is not bad if it is done carefully, properly and with close supervision… like successful business and shops opening up more branches… if pre-school like eton, kinderland etc can do it and do it successfully why not primary schools?
rite now some schools are so popular parents are fighting to get in while in some schools, principals are doing all they can to increase enrollment and when they fail the schools have to close down due to dwindling enrollment. This is such a waste of time and resources. Some schools have lasted for centuries while some just come and go.
what is stopping schools that are successful from opening up more than one campus? esp with the advancement in technology and classes can be done online etc. principals in full school also run both the primary and secondary section so running 2 schools may not be far fetched and too daunting a task.
as to the fear that if the popular schools opening up more schools will lead to robots this is unfounded since Kinderland has many branches but their students / pupils aint robots at all. furthermore unless all schools in spore become acs or rgps or scgs, this fear is just exaggerated. if eg acs can have acps, acjs, acss (ind), acss (baker road), acjc, acs international why cant acps have another branch? acps has only 48 , aitong 38, catholic 52, red swastika 44 vacancies left for phase 2B onwards many many parents will be disappointed. and some who managed to get in but live far away end up having to travel very far just to continue to put their child in their parents alma mater
with more schools like nanyang, raffles, acs etc having more than one campus, the overall standard / results of schools in spore may go up since these schools with long history must be doing something better than other schools which explains why they grow from strength to strength. With a longer history it is obvious that in time to come less and less citizens will be able to get into the schools since their alumi numbers will keep growing.
MOE is trying hard to sell the idea that all schools are the same. But we all know a new school like Frontrier is just not going to be like rosyth. why not replicate the successful one rather than reinventing the wheel all the time.
unlike secondary schools and junior colleges, primary school registration is not via merit and so opening up more vancancies by having successful schools running more than one campus will not lead to a drop in standard -
LOLMum:
would you be happy with the constant shifting of teachers and principals especially when your kid is sitting for psle?
Of cause not happy but for national interest, I will to support it. -
30plus:
Don't understand how this will turn our next gen to robots??
It's quite unbelievable you have such idea. What kind of next generation we are shaping? Robots? :roll:phtthp:
Yes, clone all primary schools in SG to follow Nanyang high standard.
all pupils sit for common exam qns, common tests.
everything all common.
then there won't be clamoring of anymore hot, popular school.
all these will become history. -
At this rate, why not adopt Hogwart’s system? Use the Sorting Hat to sort students into 4 different schools based on their characteristics (brave, cunning, smart, etc). The schools can be franchised across the country. No one can argue with the Sorting Hat’s decision.
If only it is this simple… but if you think about what we are achieving with genetic engineering, in future, our grandchildren can not just determine the sex of the baby they want, they may even be able to custom-design the characteristics of their child. Do they want super-smart kids, or super-athletes? Can this be done? Yes. It’s just a matter of time. When THAT happens, the Sorting Hat will just be a simple check on the genetic characteristics of the child based on his/her birth certificate.
But before that happens, no Sorting Hat exists that can satisfy all parents going through P1 registration. Think about it, the concept of franchising ALREADY exists in the form of the CHIJ or the ACS "franchises" of schools. Yet not all CHIJ or ACS schools are equal in the eyes of parents! Why? Because it still boils down to the efforts of individual principals, teachers and students in each school for the school to succeed.
And remember that MOE already serves as the "master franchiser" by dictating the quality of teachers, the curriculum taught, and the level of examinations set for all Primary schools. That already set the baseline for all schools.
Sorry. OT. I’m just trying to ease the tension here a little bit. -
i disagree. right now for someone who is from say RGPS. whose grandmother and mother has been in rgps. and if she wants her daughter in future to go to rgps she has to make sure she makes it to rgps for the P1 registration. So she and her parents has to stay near rgps or else even if she get a place in rgps she has to put up with long travelling time.
Our minister of education mr heng swee kiat mentioned yesterday the 1st criteria is proximity for P1 registration. But for someone whose grandfather is from acps, himself from acps and wants his son to go to acps and hopefully his son’s son to go to acps in future what option does he has? he got no option really. either stay near bt timah or put up with long travelling time for his son. Else he has to break the family tradition.
why should this be so?
why are we scaring ourselves that having a school that is running out of vacancy if it were to have another 1 branch located elsewhere for the convenience of parents and students then all hell will break loose? the teachers and principals who run acps when it founded in 1886 till today are all different and of different calibre but the standard of acps is still there and the appeal is still there. from 1886 till today acps has many students. they are defintely not clones of one another.
no matter what MOE says a school set up today cant be compared to one set up 100 yrs or more ago. Why keep opening new schools only to close them in 10 to 20 yrs but then not allow schools that have long tradition from having branches. Try it if it doesnt work then go back to status quo. What is there to lose?
for a small place like spore do we need 200 over primary schools or can we have say 100 schools but then each of them having 2 campus?
