      Hi all,

Just wanted to enquire, if there are genuine companies, which allow/require data entry kind of work, from home, in Singapore.

      Thanks

but that require us to meet clients, order/purchase and deliver products to them, right? at less you are referring to online kind of buy and sell.

And also bear in mind in doing so you may slowly lose friends who are wary of your intentions ....

I think in many cases, individuals start off working in offices, and then later transit to a work from home scheme and just checking into the office every now and then to attend meetings or touch base with superiors. The jobs can be accounting, editorial, data entry, research etc. As long as the work can be carried around in a laptop, it is very much up to the individual and the boss. It is important to maintain quality of work and be very timely in handing over your completed worked when working from home. If you have to stay up all night to finish it, do it. Even if your children are sick, you must not say that you are late with your work because your children are sick unless it is an emergency hospital situation.

Some companies allow employees to work from home once a week. This happened to my previous and current companies.

It very much depends on your work scope. Eg. if your job don’t require you to be physically in the office eg. admin jobs. You need to have contacts with your business partners face to face, manage the site, etc… so such jobs are less likely to be approved for work from home scheme .

For finance, etc… where just a laptop will do and you can work anywhere, it’s easier for work from home scheme. But you need to ensure that you need to establish a reputation. People genuinely believe you are working from home and not skivving from home. I am lucky to have understanding bosses so it works for me. But I made sure I am always contactable.

I was told that there are people running trading business at home under HDB home office scheme. So I think accounting services at home should be ok.

                        Agree with you.
And yes totally agree with being timely & responsible in our work , if we want to njoy flexibility. Very often, we have mothers citing children as the reason why they are unable to complete certain tasks. This makes a very lame excuse cos flexi-work is really meant for people with the discipline & good time management skill to make things work. If mothers on flexi-work still cite children as the reason for their inability to meet certain datelines, then it is no wonder why companies do not want to explore this route.
