      seiko,

there is no 'which school is better' although academic and popularity wise, BPPS tops in the Bukit Panjang Neighbourhood.

Beacon - new compound; parents are drawn to the new teaching method and the good feedback from parents of current students with regards to the quality of teachers

Greenridge - traditional teaching, one of the popular choices of parents who initially wanted to choose BPPS but worry about balloting and hence divert their attention to Greenridge.

CHIJ - girls school; popular for parents who prefer to send their dds to an all girls' school and a mission school environment

Westview - the least popular of the lot; maybe cos the school has a pretty short history; if you read in this thread, there is someone who did a brief comment.

you should check the historical data on balloting, determine your distance away from the school to check your chances in Phase 2C before listing down your preferred 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice school.

        Hi Seiko,

You got some very good answers from jedamum. What I would suggest you do is go and talk to some people who have children studying in the different schools and also if you have the time, go down to the schools and see if they are in sync with your child's personality. Ultimately I believe that even if you put your child in the top school, but the school's philosophy and teaching is different from your child's learning ability, the child will not be happy there and may also not do well.

          Hi Jedamum & Vividlaurel,

          Thank u for your feedback!

In this case CHIJ is out for me cos I got another boy need to be enroll afterwhich. I prefer them to go to the same school.

Do I need to make an appt with the schools to talk to them? Is it too early to do so?

But in terms of academic results: who is 2nd after BPPS at this moment?

            Hi Seiko,

You can surely start talking to the schools since you need to make a decision for next year. I suggest you wait for this year's exercise to end before you call the schools and talk to them.

I think in terms of results, after BPPS is CHIJ and then Greenridge and the others. Beacon is still untried since the first batch will only be in P3 next year. But from what we have seen till now, Beacon seems to be popular due to the new IT syllabus.

              Hi mommies

my son is attending K1 next year. So, we will be register him for primary school in year 2011.

as i stay at Blk 206 Petir road in which the nearest school is Bukit Panjang Primary School, can i ask how to go about secure a place for my son for P1 in this school? from the forum, it seems like this school is popular. but my aim is to let him go to the nearest school.

is it a must to do PV for the school to get a place? what type volunteery work will be task if become a PV and when is the best time to register for PV for the school?

Any experienced parents out there can help to enlighten me?

              Thanks

                Hi slee16,

If yo are looking at BPPS, then it's good that you have started thinking now when your boy is in Nursery. You should approach the school not later than June of next year as the PV should be done from July 1 of the year BEFORE you register to 30 June of the year you register. In your case you need to start your PV from next June.

For BPPS, it's better you do PV as it's difficult to get in these days in 2C. It's basically a gamble.

                  Thanks for sharing.

is it too early if i start to call up the school to query about PV now?

What sort of tasks will a volunteer do in the school? Must i wait till they have the open house event to ask? How do i know when is the open house?

sorry, hope u don't mind me asking too much questions. This is my first time for my elder son. Not sure what to do... :?

                    slee16,
there is no harm calling up early. latest, you have to sign up PV by next Jun, so now is about the right time to call.
BPPS don't have open houses for the past few years.

                      Hi slee16,

It's not too early to call. Call them once and then maybe follow it with a visit if you can. My experience with BPPS is that they know the school is very popular and hence have too many people wanting to do PV there. So unless you show commitment and keep in touch with them, they may not get back to you.

For PV, I can tell you what a friend did - she used to spend time (3-4 hrs at a time) being a lab assistant for the computer lab for upper primary students. I guess the school will match your skills to their needs.
