[Bukit Panjang] Primary Schools
-
Hi slee16,
If yo are looking at BPPS, then it's good that you have started thinking now when your boy is in Nursery. You should approach the school not later than June of next year as the PV should be done from July 1 of the year BEFORE you register to 30 June of the year you register. In your case you need to start your PV from next June.
For BPPS, it's better you do PV as it's difficult to get in these days in 2C. It's basically a gamble.

Hi mommies
my son is attending K1 next year. So, we will be register him for primary school in year 2011.
as i stay at Blk 206 Petir road in which the nearest school is Bukit Panjang Primary School, can i ask how to go about secure a place for my son for P1 in this school? from the forum, it seems like this school is popular. but my aim is to let him go to the nearest school.
is it a must to do PV for the school to get a place? what type volunteery work will be task if become a PV and when is the best time to register for PV for the school?
Any experienced parents out there can help to enlighten me?
Thanks -
Hi vividlaurel
Thanks for sharing.
is it too early if i start to call up the school to query about PV now?
What sort of tasks will a volunteer do in the school? Must i wait till they have the open house event to ask? How do i know when is the open house?
sorry, hope u don't mind me asking too much questions. This is my first time for my elder son. Not sure what to do... :?

there is no harm calling up early. latest, you have to sign up PV by next Jun, so now is about the right time to call.
BPPS don't have open houses for the past few years. -
Hi slee16,
It's not too early to call. Call them once and then maybe follow it with a visit if you can. My experience with BPPS is that they know the school is very popular and hence have too many people wanting to do PV there. So unless you show commitment and keep in touch with them, they may not get back to you.
For PV, I can tell you what a friend did - she used to spend time (3-4 hrs at a time) being a lab assistant for the computer lab for upper primary students. I guess the school will match your skills to their needs.

Hi all
It’s me again… i called the school and talked to the person in charge. He asked me to print out the form and fill in them submit to them personally.
As i fill in the form, i come to this page where i have to tick for my preference/s for the volunteery work.
Question:
Should i just tick all the boxes ? or really those that i am interested in?
The statement of preferences are very generic, hence i am not sure what event and participation does the school anticipate from the parent volunteer. Any one of you who had went thru the PV in BPPS can share with me?
Thanks.
I am not sure if i should ask the question here or in another thread for PV. But since this is related to BPPS, so i post my question here. Hope its ok. -
Hi, re volunteering at BPPS… You can tick all if your sched is not fixed. You may choose to do regular duties eg 1 n 1/2 hr once a week or you may choose to do ad-hoc duties like outings etc, clocking few hours each session. For the latter, the person in charge would send messages to the PVs when they need help for certain duties and those who can commit can give their affirmation. It’s a friendly environment so don’t worry…

Hi
anyone applied to be PV at Bt Panajang primary for your kid born in yr 2005? Have you got reply from the school yet?
So far i have not get any reply and a bit worried cos its mid Dec, going to yr 2010 liao.
pls advise.
Thanks. -
Hi Slee16,
Me too. Have submitted my application 1-2 ago but yet heard from them. I've asked the admin whether I'll receive a noticfication that they have received my application, she said no. Intend to write to Mr Yusoff when the school reopens. But I'll guess the closing date for the PV is not due yet, that's why....
So we will most probably see other when we are selected for the PV..
