Pei Chun Public

hi Mr Alvin Chong,
may i inquire - if i place my child on waitlist at Pei Chun if fail to ballot, does the school has certain criteria to consider, before accepting a child in (from P1 - P6) ?
a) is the school looking for certain CCAs that the child excel in ?
if Yes, which category of CCA, sports ?
b) any entrance tests to sit for - Maths, Chinese, Engish, Science ?
c) any other important criteria ?
you may pm me.
Thank you very much. -
Which level are u referring to?
If it’s P1, then it’s hands off from all persons in-charge. The structure of the system will ensure that it does it job without any external influence. So if it’s about balloting then all involved will have to go through the process of it. In other words, I don’t think even the P can do much to about it.
But if it’s after the balloting process, from P1-P6, then the P is the one who can decide. Anything, within reasons, will go through, if he says yes. So in this case it also applies to the entry to the school.
This is basically true. Though on the authority hierarchy aspect, the P has someone else to answer to and all his actions can be brought up to be questioned by the Superintendent.
So to answer your question specifically
a) is the school looking for certain CCAs that the child excel in ?
if Yes, which category of CCA, sports ?
Yes and not.
No if before the ballot.
Yes if the P approves. (But seldom as the selection is not in P1.)
b) any entrance tests to sit for - Maths, Chinese, Engish, Science ?
No. PCPS takes in all, who can get in, who take CL as HCL from P1-4
c) any other important criteria ?
NA
(PS Maybe this may interest you. That selection process for the Niche CCAs takes place sometime in Semester 2 of Primary 2.)

Hi Mr Alvin,
Hmm this is not a compulsory platform for all teachers. I know some school teachers are doing it. but it's not a must do for all teachers. As such, you will only find those who are more comfortable with blogs, flash, twitter or fb will be the ones doing it. I prefer to do it via email when I was teaching there. It's more personal and I don't wanna what I do to be public knowledge. So different stroke for different folks. Though for the lower primary, where more than half are very experience teachers(30-40 yrs teaching experience), most are not that comfortable with blogs.marmum:
I am referring to class blogs whereby homework, updates and information can be accessed by parents and students so that they would not miss out any. There can also be a photo gallery of the student's activities in school for the parents to view.
Is there any specific personnel we can put up the request to? It can also be a communication channel between parents and teachers.
Regards,
Marmum
Thanks for your information. I was hoping that there could be blogs or some form of communication between teacher and parents as my child have a couple of times forgotten (or that my child simply can't be bothered) to do home work or assignments and even forgets to hand up. And e-mails to one particular teacher goes ignored and when I called up to speak with the teacher to arrange a meet up to discuss the issue that the teacher wrote in the student diary, the teacher simply told me that he/she is busy and can't meet up. Then brief instructions were given to do the assignment which differs from the notes written in the diary.

Hi, any of your kids gg for the Rainbow Fish show on 2nd August?
Yes, my chid going too. Am wondering if the teachers would keep their school bags for them while they go for the play??? Are there any such arrangements? The children would leave at 9am and return to school at 11.30am, right? -

The students will leave their bags in school before they depart for the play. There will be some info which the teacher will hand out, maybe you'll be getting it today. Do bring along a cardigan or sweater for your child to keep warm. My boy was frozen cos he forgot to bring his. More pocket money if child needs to settle lunch in school. -

I placed my girl on the waiting list with Pei Chun last year August. We are living in Bishan and are not ex-girl/boy from Pei Chun, didn't do any PV too.
I remember after submittion, I called up the school to check the status 2-3 times in Oct and Nov 2011 and was told there were about 30 others on the waiting list. Hence, we went ahead to prepare my girl for P1 @ Marymount Convent.
On the 2nd day after school reopened in January 2011, we received a call from Pei Chun and was offered a place. Without hesitation, we took up the offer after meeting up with the Principal. The principal told me an indian girl who initially wanted to take HCL changed the mind & withdrew from the school, hence we had the place.
I think acceptance is based on the school's discretion and for P1 admission, there is really nothing much to base on...no CCA or previous acedemic results can be used... -

Thanks for the info. So your child went to the play already? Guess, should let my child pack a small bag to bring a sweater and water bottle along. What time did they return to school?

Hi Marmum,
Yes my boy went for the play and he loved it! Maybe you can also pack a little snack for him to carry along too with the water and sweater
They are scheduled to return to school by 1130 as some staying nearby may want to go home for lunch before they return for the day's session. If too rush, they will then have to spend eating at the canteen. -
Thanks Aggie,
My child said the trip was fun. Did not receive any notice/ handout from the teacher. They would only instructed to note in the pupil diary that they need to assemble at school by 8.45am. Guess, the instructions are given out accordingly by their respective teachers. BTW, can anyone advise me about the MLEA about the rocket balloon. Don’t really understand how to fill up the blanks to do the story as my child can’t tell me clearly how they did it. Anyone can share their childs input here so that I can understand better how the experiment of this Rocket Balloon is done. Many Thanks.
