Hi Sleepy
I just saw your PM on pinao teacher, but your account does not accept reply of PM. how? -
Hi happy day,

Hi… Can anyone recommend a good piano teacher to travel to Sembawang. Thanks a heap!

happy day:
keyboard and piano are different touching
if parents willing to play long term in piano (or have exam), better start from piano.
keyboard is very soft touching will make the student's hand spoilt
play piano, need strong hand (not power from body) but power from han only.
some of my student, practise with keyboard. Than after a week, they never practise anymore. Because for (young children) them, they already can feel and recognize keyboard is different sound and different length from piano
Buy piano still can sell (have value), buy keyboard just can sell it at karong goni man.
GOOD LUCK
My 6 year old girl has been practicing on the electronic keyboard at home since she started to learn piano in April this year. She still enjoys practicing on the electronic keyboard now.
What you wrote about the differences is certainly important. I plan to buy a piano when she passed her grade 1 and grade 2 exams

Hi Tamarind,
You can’t wait till she passes gr 1 or 2 then u get a piano. It will be wiser to get a piano when she is preparing for grade 1 as she has to get used to touch when going for exam. -
hi pianojazzy,
my gal hv been attending cristofori since last aug when she was 5.
so far she is doing fine definitely not fantastic.. able to recognise notes but i feel she is not making progress and nowhere near to Grade 1... not tat even mentioned by the teacher. one disadvantage of going to school is u cannot even hold a proper conversation with the teacher as her next student will already be waiting for her music lesson.
sigh... now tat we r moving to bt panjang, we r gonna to transfer her to another school but i would like to escalate her learning towards music by finding a motivated and diligent private teacher. will u hav any recommendations? i cannot take you
cos u r staying in the east... boo..boo -
Will PM you my friend’s contact.

Hi tamarind,

I started my son on keyboard ( Yamaha electone ). As he progressed, his teacher commented that his technique is not up to par. This could be because his previous electone teacher did not emphasise proper technique to him and that he could still play the keyboard with straight fingers. Subsequently, I got him piano lessons and his technique is much better now - he can't play well on the piano if he can't curl his fingers, so he had to consciously try to do it.
Just wanted to share my experience so your kid does not have to go through the same pain as mine.

hi tamarind,
I agree with pianojazzy
you need to buy piano when your children prepare to take exam
take exam cannot practise with keyboard
really different feeling and touching
AND the most important think keyboard all is same sound
pieces in exam need soft and loud, only piano can play loud and soft
play organ like robot, no feeling (no loud, soft, crescendo and everything)
if you want to make sure your children interest, better buy second hand piano so when you sell it again will be arround same price
