I agree that as long as he is fit and healthy, but who decides if he is fit, annual medical report to show Singaporeans? I don’t want a puppet president where all the jobs are done by someone else while he shakes hand and party. It is unfair as he is taking HUGE salary. Age above 80 is still toooooo old for me to accept even if he looks ok and walks about. Who knows he can even reads the figures well…

Young don’t mean won’t die. Old don’t mean die within 6 years.

Healthy definitely is a concern - someone with dementia/alzhemier’s definitely can’t do the job. But then, to wave, shake hands and hold babies I don’t think need so much energy.

All that talk about checks and balances that are to be done, I’m not sure if much energy is needed.

Setting an age limit - are we saying that old pp are useless? Will this result in discrimination that filters down? I’m getting old also, and also fretting about the day when my employer says I’m too old to work there.

RELAX... uncle/auntie, I don't mean to kick old people out at 6o or 70s, I mean above 80 is a bit tooooooo old, give chance to younger one ( also not that young lah, mostly near 60 to 70 already! ) Checking account is very tiring, if u have done accounting before, u know it is not an easy job as tallying the figures only.

frankly as far as I'm concerned, any Tom, Dick or Harry can be the president. The president just kisses babies and shakes hands. He doesn't have any official influence and listens to the cabinet, with regards to reserves matters. On anything else, he better keeps his mouth shut, or he'll be booted out of his office.

...and continue to receive the 4 million salary...thanks for the kind reminder.

umm, big fish, I’m still a while away from collecting my ‘lao lang kad’, but yes, I already am concerned that once I hit some magic numbers, employers are going to turn away.

I think 80 may be a tad old also. But it depends on the person.

And yes, I HAVE done accounting before. At a higher level, one nonid to pore through the figures. For large figures like possibly the reserves of SG, reports will be submitted. I don’t think even a 30yr old Pres will have the energy or enough eye power to make sure all are correct.

                        Strparent:

An opportunity has arisen for us, but so many cannot care less.
I know this is not GE, but the recent GE 2011 has crafted out some changes, some actions by the ruling party, which many people has voiced out before to no avail.

Some are urging the people to replicate their astonishing triumph and spectacular gains in GE 2011, by reminding them that, for the first time in electoral history, they were able to make the powerful PAP government listen to their pleas and demands for changes / reviews in unpopular policies, including the hated ministerial salaries. They even 'retired' several unpopular ministers showing that they do listen. Only when they see the votes swing, then they act. Else, it would have been status quo.

This coming Presidential Election represents the people's best possible chance to INDIRECTLY reinforce and extend these gains, one that may not come again.
Agree. First time apologise. First time said they are \"servants\". Don't you agree that PA lifted the restriction immediately is to avoid votes lost by PAP endorsed TT; after he said HDB must have made a mistake and asked for fairness.
