My gal now 4.5 year old is currently in Yamaha Junior Course learning keyboard. She also expresses her interest in learning the piano. Should she start piano when she is 6? Or should I start her now, & stop keyboard?

Some people told me I should start her now because by the time she is in P6, she will be very busy preparing her PSLE and she will not have time for grade 8.

      1) Should I start her now as of age 4.5year old?

      2) If yes,Is there any good piano teacher to recommend?

      3) If not, should I let her learn in Yahama when she is 6? Or Mandeville?

      4) Any 2nd hand piano to recommend to start off?

Appreciate all of your advice & help 🙂

If she is musically inclined, there is no harm in learning both the electone and the piano, if you choose to continue in Yamaha. My experience was that I started my son a little late on the piano, so have to end up correcting his fingering / technique. Having said that, it could just be that the teacher's focus as his 2nd electone teacher did focus on it.

          Hi acforfamily,

Will the child get confused? I think I might not have enough time for her to attend 2 classes as she is attending other enrichment classes as well. May i know where did you send your son to learn? Fees? Can share?

Actually, it is quite common for the electone students to do both electone and piano.
He does his electone at Yamaha while his piano is with a private tutor. However, his classmate does both at Yamaha. Fees vary depending on which Yamaha course it is.

Do you have the private piano teacher to recommend? And how much does he/she charges?

The private teacher that I have is just a friend who is recommended and convenient for me. I did not really source for a very good teacher. Having said that, I am quite happy with my son's progress, so no complaints. It is best that you indicate what area you live around as there are a number of postings offering piano lessons.
