I've called both High Point and Quality Movers and their rates are really .

High Point quoted me lump sum of $850 (with inclusive of est 50 boxes) and Quality Movers quoted me $580 (plus need to pay $2 refundable deposit on each box I take from them) after telling me how big my furniture are.

Agreed that High Point has very good customer service, I was quite impressed when he came onsite for the quotation. But the price was... Quality Movers was my 2nd choice and invited down for comparison sake, and the price was such a big difference! 😐 I wonder if they do research on market rates at all?

I've actually confirmed with another mover who helped moved DH's office. DH said they are quite okay. They came and quoted me S$450 (plus comment on my big fridge and sofa ) and they will give me 40 boxes FOC.

            Hi smurf,

            not sure about the boxes.
haven’t seen them yet, coming next Monday.

We have contemplated on moving them ourselves cos actually we have considerably few items (no dining table, no TV, no TV console), but it’s gonna be hard work cos my furniture are quite bit and bulky, plus I got a fountain made of real stones. So it’s gonna be heavy.

DH was totally worn out after we carried the stones back from the DIY shop for our fountain. So I guess there won’t be much of him left if we do the moving by ourselves.

PS: My house's kitchen itself can take 25 cartons...

              :faint:

hmm, we are thinking of asking cash converter man to come up to take a look cos a lot of things we dun want to move, so maybe can sell off or trade-in. like tables, coffee table, fridge, cabinet, etc.

and we are moving those small items. maybe just shift 2-3 boxes whenever we are free?
for movers, we intend to ask them to move big item like washing machine and 3 storeroom shelves cabinet(cos they are quite heavy).

not sure how much would that cost. :?

Strange leh. My brother paid all in $300 for a 1x14' truck for High Point.

Quality Movers my friend said not bad. $450 sound reasonable. You give comments after your shifting experience OK coz I will also be shifting after Xmas...
I was shocked too to received a $850 quote. Was very disappointed cos we can't use Highpoint as I was really impressed by his attitude when he came.

OK. If this mover is good, I'll definitely comment on them. Just keeping my finger crossed that they will keep to their word on the move date promised.

Actually if you using movers, might as well ask them to quote for the must-things to move, then ask them to quote you separately for estimate # of boxes that need to be moved by them. If everything can be loaded into 1 truck, the incremental cost to move the boxes should be marginal.

We have use cash converter before when we moved our business things (when we closed shop that time) to sell there. One equipment which cost us $400 was sold for just $50 plus tat equipment only 2 months old.

If you want to use cash converter, suggest you ask the garang guni man first, their rates might turn out to be higher. Cash converter is famous for under-quoting you and customers still go for them cos they already took so much effort to move the things to their shop. So, no matter how low the rates are, customers will still sell them.

Just call them to your house lor when they call out for old newspapers in your area. I dunno them too lar.

But that's how I sold my TV and DVD player. The quote was quite good, said my TV was a really old model, can fetch good price in lesser developed countries. Don't make sense right?
