Thanks titank and jedamum. These are good info to process in my research. It is true to see that st. hilda has good PSLE results for the past years. Ironically, Poi Ching does not show their past records of PSLE results in details like St. Hilda. Hmmm…so funny.
Affiliation, is it out of topic to ask whether St. Hilda Sec is it a good sec school like St. Nicholas, RGS etc? Popular? Has good O level results? If yes, then it is worth it to try to go for St. Hilda. -

Hi meeyah,
Both St Hildas & Poi Ching have pros & cons. Both of them are good, you won't go wrong with either one of them. In terms of practical point of view, I would go for the one that have high probability to go into.
Some schools like to show off in thier website how they perform in PSLE. Others quite low profile & maybe you need to ask the school to release to you privately. I do have a hard when come to getting these PSLE performance indicators. -
Dear All
I am currently a 40hr PV at St Hilda’s. My child 2004 will register P1 next year 2010.
I just heard that St Hilda’s will be changing their PV selection process. For 2005 child, parents need to submit your PV application letter to the school now. Selection will happen in Nov 09 and PV work will start in Jan 2010. They have posted the information of the changes in their school website.
So for all the parents out there who would like to PV in St Hilda’s, pls take note of the new change to avoid missing the new timeline! Good Luck! -

I suppose St hilda should do something about their PV system. They were accepting too many PV (more than the seat they can offer) and over promising the parents during my year. In the end, a lot of parents who live > 2k got disappointed.Dear All

That's why I chose to do PV for Poi Ching. Although nobody will promise you anything, at least from the past year record, as long as you are pv, the seat is almost guaranteed. -

Hi amlqf,
I think that is why the St Hilda's is reviewing and improving their PV system over the years. This year only 31 PVs are selected. This will help to avoid the situation of 'over supply' PVs and disappointing them. -
Hi,
anyone knows how st hilda select PV, wat is the criteria? thanks… -

Selection of PV is done by the school's PSG Chairman. I am not sure what exactly is the selection criteria but there are several rounds:Hi,
anyone knows how st hilda select PV, wat is the criteria? thanks....
1. Round 1 (Shortlisting) - this is purely based on the application letter. So it is better that you indicate in your letter what you can contribute to the school.
2. Round 2 (Briefing) - usually all the shortlisted PVs will be briefed of the requirements, expectations etc. The purpose is to ensure that PVs are aware and will be committed to provide their volunteery service once being selected. Those who cannot commit may drop out at this stage
3. Round 3 (Interview) - PVs who wants to stay on after Round 2, may be called for Interview by the PSG. This is the last chance for you to explain in details how u can contribute to the school.
4. Round 4 (Recruitment) - PVs have been selected and invited to attend and welcome briefing by the school's Principal. You will also be asked to sign the confirmation letter as a PV.
Usually chances are given to PV staying >1km, because this is the only chance for them to come close to registering in SHPS, because in Phase 2C, even those within 1km MUST ballot. But, if you are >1km, there is no gaurantee if you PV, because it will depend on the number of grassroots and Church affliations in phase 2B.
Therefore you should be aware of your chances, execute your plan, and also have other backup plans in case Plan A did not work out.
Good luck! -

MdmQ, I think yours qualify as the most comprehensive and in-depth report on the PV selection process of ANY school. Kudos to you and thank you for sharing! -
