RE: Poi Ching
AC1508:
My girl is going to P1 next year, actually already enroll her into Tampines Pri Sch, but I got a call from Poi Ching this morning saying that they got a place for my girl. Now I am still wondering whether to tranfer her to Poi Ching or just stick to Tampines Pri Sch?
Are u staying nearer to Poi Ching? Many parents wish to have their child enrole in Poi Ching since it is a SAP school. U are strongly encouraged to transfer now that you are given the chance to. Just my two cents worth... -

Where are the Jan & Elly centers located? thanksMy nursery goes for phonics lesson at Jan & Elly. Personally think it's solid phonic teaching where they start at nursery and complete by K2 (advance stage).
Have a P1 son who went through the advance stage and we feel that his phonics knowlege is quite solid as compared to his elder sister who only did up to intermediate as she only started in K2.
I was undecided between ICR and J&E. But eventually went back to J&E for my youngest. Was told that ICR focuses on sight word rather than phonics (dunno how true is this). At their centre, they have quite alot of students who joined from ICR. -

Selection of PV is done by the school's PSG Chairman. I am not sure what exactly is the selection criteria but there are several rounds:Hi,
anyone knows how st hilda select PV, wat is the criteria? thanks....
1. Round 1 (Shortlisting) - this is purely based on the application letter. So it is better that you indicate in your letter what you can contribute to the school.
2. Round 2 (Briefing) - usually all the shortlisted PVs will be briefed of the requirements, expectations etc. The purpose is to ensure that PVs are aware and will be committed to provide their volunteery service once being selected. Those who cannot commit may drop out at this stage
3. Round 3 (Interview) - PVs who wants to stay on after Round 2, may be called for Interview by the PSG. This is the last chance for you to explain in details how u can contribute to the school.
4. Round 4 (Recruitment) - PVs have been selected and invited to attend and welcome briefing by the school's Principal. You will also be asked to sign the confirmation letter as a PV.
Usually chances are given to PV staying >1km, because this is the only chance for them to come close to registering in SHPS, because in Phase 2C, even those within 1km MUST ballot. But, if you are >1km, there is no gaurantee if you PV, because it will depend on the number of grassroots and Church affliations in phase 2B.
Therefore you should be aware of your chances, execute your plan, and also have other backup plans in case Plan A did not work out.
Good luck!
