        Hi,

Is it true that montesorri schools do not decorate the walls with subjects related to the themes covered in the month? The walls are kept clean so that children can concentrate on what they are doing? I visited a school recently and noticed the walls are very bare compared to other preschools that I saw and find it very strange. The above is the explanation given to me. Can someone advise?

            Hi jhmum1,

My dd is in a Montessori preschool. They do have some childrens' work on one wall, but overall the walls are kept clean. The materials for the monthly theme are on a movable white board. I thought it's good, less distractions. Some preschools have lots of decorations, even hanging nettings with colourful balloons. Looks vibrant and cheerful, but can be messy too. 😄

Does your Montessori trained child perform in Pri 1 better than other traditional trained kindergarten?

                  I need some opinions.
I have a girl and a boy who enrolled in my student care centre this year. They were from Shekinah Montesori in St. Anne Wood. They are some of the smartest among the Pri 1 kids in my centre.
The boy excelled in every subject especially Maths where he is now even doing Pri 3 Maths in my centre.
As for the girl, she is very proficient and articulative in the English Language. But she is just above average in Maths.
In fact, from my past experience I observe that kids who attended good private Kindergarten or child care are better prepared for Primary One than those from PCF and NTUC. I suspect the private ones provide far better phonics education with smaller teacher to students ratio. Of course, fee of private ones are more expensive than the latter.

I think a lot depend on the ability of the child. Some need very detailed attention while others can learn a lot in structured teaching.

To a high degree, I agree with you that a lot depend on the child. In my centre, we have this philosophy : if a child is willing to learn, we are willing to teach him as much as he can take in.
But if a kid refuses to work hard, we will not be able to give him as much guidance as we would like to.
The parent also plays an important role. Spend quality and quantity time with your kid. Instill in him a sense of discipline and responsiblity right from the day he was born. With the right attitude and aptitude, the kid can go very far. 😎
