to get into a school with COP 20 less or should choose one that is close? Which is better? Appreciate all advises. TIA.

The 20 points less is it against the lower range or the Upper range of the COP of the school?

It’s like example you got 250 but intend to go to a school with COP of 230 and the mean and median is about 240. Is it advisable or better get a school with a higher COP?

It really depends on your child. Going to a school with higher COP will mean the chance to interact with more intelligent peers as well as greater academic demands (and possibly more stress). Some children fare well in this kind of environment.
Going to a school with lower COP may mean a chance to represent the school in competitions and opportunities to shine that would not have existed if he were to go to a school with higher COP. This can vastly build his self-esteem and push him to excel further. But if your child is lazy, he may slack because of the slower pace in the school or influence of less academically inclined students. So understand your child and decide what’s best for him/her. -
I think find a good sec school that's a match with the child and the child is able to get in with the T-score JMHO

going into a school hoping to join a certain ccas, one must also be wary that sometimes selection criteria are in place, so do not keep your hopes high just for this reason too.
some kids are 'strange', no matter the environment, they seemed to be just floating in the middle..ie in a less demanding environment, they can come in middle ranking in class, and the same too in a higher demanding environment, cos they only want to do just enough academically while taking time to do other stuff that they like.
so as what others had mentioned....you should be able to roughly understand what environment suits your child better.
