Hi Katherina,
Don’t get demoralise. It is tough to get into the sports CCA, in the first place, places are reserved for those DSA via sports, secondly, they are looking for boys who are able to win medals, so it is very tough.
Like what Snow Crystal said RI is a big pond.
My son got brainwashed by the teacher and seniors and join uniform group last year. He told me he regrets a little. But hubby and I feel that it is a good thing bcos DS is not a outdoor person, and he has more muscles now
To toughen up, NPCC and NCC seem to be 2 of the good choices. Unifom groups provide a lot of opportunities for developing Leadership qualitiy for the boys.
Happy Lunar New year to everyone ! -

Don't worry. I was from a neighbourhood pri sch and didn't really do any CCAs there. And in the first few months I did feel that the GEP pupils knew a lot more, and of course I ended up in a UG because I had no sports or music background at all. But in the end I got used to it. After some time everyone is on the same footing. Especially at the start, don't think too much about those Euler and Galileo progs (in my time there weren't such things anyway), because time is needed to settle in, and there are still other opportunities (such as RA in Y3). Even so, I did get the feeling that some opportunities especially competitions, are always given only to the same few (i.e. 4 ppl/subj or so) people to do, because the school wants to win so they always send the same people back.
In UG, especially from Y3 onwards, there are a lot of planning and projects to do. NPCC and NCC will get your child fit but from what I know it's quite tough too. In the UG, I learnt a lot about doing things and dealing with people, esp office politics which I suppose will be very useful in life.

Chinese orchestra does not require music background. There are many other merit cca like interact, humanities, photography etc etc clubs to join.

:goodpost: You have a very positive attitude, and I respect you for that :salute: ... Very few students, even parents, share your positive outlook! So, you must be a 'senior' boy from RI?Don't worry. Okay hi, having gone through this whole sec 1 RE shenanigan, I feel that I will be able to answer your question.
Actually I just asked one SIMPLE question only. About the 500 word limit - is that called getting too involved in child's work??? You mentioned 'I seemed to imply' - pls don't jump to conclusion. He did all the work himself. If he shares his problem abt the word limit with me, don't u think I should support him by asking around esp if he already did his part and still got no answer to that question?Strparent:
My initial comments was not to get involved in THEIR SCHOOL WORK, which you seemed to implied in yr first post on RE. Just say to let him get closer to friends and teachers by group discussions, etc ma....
My thoughts similar to 2ppaamm, it was suggestion on the school work itself. Why the topic can deviate to ldrship at RI and mums shld not be bond with sons de ? :siao: :siao:
vsk, paiseh  and HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR to all parents. :celebrate:
If I asked 'A', then pls answer 'A'. If got no answer to 'A', then it's best not talk about 'B'.
Thanks....Happy New Year to you too!
Basically the teacher wont care that much about the word limit imo, just that having a shorter and more concise preliminary idea will help your son to communicate his ideas better to the team when they decide on what the whole group is doing for their RE project. A 10000 word essay with so much added information that it becomes cluttered and unreadable is no better than a short and sweet proposal detailing the rationale behind doing the project and how they are going to go about do it. In secondary one, word limits are not going to be king of anything, but as you progress through the years, your son will realise that the limitation will be enforced more severely, e.g. teachers not reading anything past the word limit in essays during examinations, sometimes costing conclusion marks. In a nutshell, your son should try his best to adhere to the word limit, give a take a few *cough*hundred*cough* words will not matter that much, and really, the pros outweigh the cons.
p.s. this is my first post so yeah, please forgive me if I make any mistakes and can anyone tell me what do \"ds\" and \"dm\" refer to?
