All About Measuring Home-School Distance

ChiefKiasu:
Chief,I think you can argue that your house is within 1km of the school without much problem.
Just a rule of thumb... if your house is within the default zoom level of the primary school map on KiasuParents.com, you should be within 1km of the school. To be more accurate, use a ruler to measure the 200m marking at the bottom of the map and then use the same ruler to measure the shortest distance from your block to the school.
You can also use http://www.can.com.sg if you don't have a ruler handy :).
I don,t fully agree with you.
You can argue but wat if your prefence of school decline you? -
For something as important as this, one should be armed with nothing less than an "authoritative report", and SLA provides this.
For less than S$10, you can have it online in less than 1 minutes, under SLAโs INLIS (Integrated Land Information Service) search. Product name "List of Primary Schools Near Property". The report gives all the schools within "Zone 1 - within 1km from the school" basis exact/actual address entered.
Cheers! -
As far as the distance criteria goes, SLA distance is final and the school is supposed to take reference from that. Which is why we took pains to use SLA maps on http://www.whereto.sg .
Notwithstanding, the school may reject any registration based on a variety of OTHER reasons.
INLIS will give you the official addresses for a particular school.
However, if you're deciding on some properties for purchase in different places, or considering more than 1 school, then use the website to prioritize and shortlist what to buy. -
Many thanks carsndora, whereto.sg is a fantastic map
-
Thanks!
By the way, I forgot to mention that you can use the \"Measure\" function to literally digitally measure distances on http://www.whereto.sg.
No need to use a ruler against the computer screen. -
Yes, I have tried almost every function available, and I must say itโs very accurate.
Did you say you developed this free online map ? Fantatsic effort. -
Thanks! Its a showcase of our mapping software products that our company sells. But the map is free for public use.
And while we were at it, why not do something useful?
It helped my own decisions on location and schools too
(...the things we do for our kids eh?)
There will be more \"widgets\" up soon. Next up on the schedule is child care centres and kindergartens. -
Wow, good stuff. Yours appear to have the footprint of \"satellite view\", and it's pretty accurate (unlike the streetdirectory, which in many occassions, are not accurate).
And updated too - I saw the blueprint of Volari on Balmoral Rd, which is not even built yet. In fact the building that's sitting there is still the old Garden Hotel :celebrate: -
Juz found this...anyone mentioned before?

Yes I had used this before where it is quite accurate. Of course you should use SLA Map if your distance are in the gray area zone like 0.9-1.1 or 1.9-2.1Juz found this...anyone mentioned before?
