I filled in the form and pass my DS $3 on Sunday and he got back the decal last night. I was impressed with the turnaround.

hmm… this week this forum v quiet hor…

My neighbour told us that her DS is in Sec 2 this yr, and was "selected" to join the Chinese Orchestra. However, they had to pay $45 per month for the coach (from China, currently in Singapore Chinese Orchestra) to teach them. School pays the other $45 per mth. She has a lot of grouses. Even though she has been paying $45 per mth, the "teaching" was not really done, and the coach kept telling the pupils that they should engage him for 1-to-1 coaching.

And when she asked the coach to recommend where to buy the 二胡, the coach recommended her one which cost her $900. After buying, someone (dunno who) told her that can find the 二胡 that she bought some other places for only half the price.

She is really upset and thinks that the coach is really sponging on the pupils. She said she has complained to the school many times but no action taken.

This neighbour is a simple lady with probably not very high education, and definitely doesn’t know how to use the computer.

Any suggestion how I can help her ? Talk to the teacher in-charge of CCA ?

Trying to help this neighbour as they are from lower income family.

              MTIA.

Yes, I think talk to teacher in charge / CCA head (Mr Tok I believe) is best but before you do that, you may just want to have the verify yourself that the Er Hu indeed cost half the price first. Always better to speak with facts with the school.

$900 is not a small sum of money and the school should be made aware of this. As with all instruments there must be a range to choose from. When asked to recommend the coach should explain the options instead of recommending just one, especially when most parents have no clue when it comes to specialised instruments. In this instance, the parent must also be feeling wary of bringing this issue up lest the child be 'penalised' by the coach. Tough one .... but it happens across the island. I think a third party approaching the head of CCA is a good starting point.
