I usually don't get stressed over exams, maybe that's why my dd's such a coolcat. However, after joining this forum, some stress is starting to creep in. I think I am quite unlike most parents here. I don't look through my dd's school work. I rely on her to tell me on how she's coping. Once in a while, I'll get her to do some Sci revision on the assessment book as her FT is already doing Fabian Ng Math and Teacher@Work Synthesis in the class. Exam preparation means doing the past year papers of 3 top schools, excluding English. I'm ok as long as she averages in the 90s for Math, Sci and Eng and manages to stay in Band 1 for Chinese. Never aimed for high 90s - mebbe we should do so as I now learn from this forum that we should aim stretch our child to their full potential.
watmekiasu, instead of stretching, how about finding out what causes the short fall between your dd marks to reach the full potential mark?

Ds analyzes his own paper and he comes to his own conclusion - CARELESS MISTAKE.

Riding on watmekiasu explanation of her dd, for children with high ability without much need to prepare for exam, the children should be nurtured. Any advise on how to nurture such children? (Note to moderator: Please assist to post this question to the appropriate thread if needed. Thousand apologies for the extra work πŸ˜‰ )

You've said it - CARELESS MISTAKES. 90% of the time, it is careless mistakes, partly contributed by her atrocious handwriting which even she herself finds difficult to decipher. Her style of writing and doing math is like a flood - it comes fast and furious, hence all the mistakes.

Btw, I don't think my dd is the high-ability type. She's lucky she has lots going her way - great FT in school, good attitude towards school work and very competitive classmates who keep her on her toes. A major reason why she doesn't do much revision and etc at home is because she still takes hours to finish her meals and shower - there's just not much time left after homework.

Can we talk about DO U GET STRESSED AFTER YOUR CHILD HAD EXAM??

YES, i do have it!!! And it is so bad till i could even dream of it. Ds just sat for his EL paper on Monday. He responsed,\" so easy, πŸ˜› (this sound scary to me....cos he said that during CA and yet turned out to be NOT THAT TRUE LEH), BUT hor, comprehension too hard liao, cannot do, think only 1 correct.....That night itself, i 'saw' his EL paper in my dream with all the CROSS on the compre section!!!! 😒 The dream followed by his MT paper, the teacher in my dream complained ds not attentive and very careless. And he scored 39.5/85. FAILED!!! His MT shouldn't fail at all! I dun expect great marks though.... The next moment the teacher told me that was revision paper, so no worry, actual result was 89%, i was :rahrah: YEAH!!! Well, this \"nightmare\" kept me awake from 2 am to 7 am. Haiz.....too stressed liao. I tried to take it easy but no avail..... 😒

Sad to say, after seeing his result for EL paper, really 1 correct! :!: And the rest are all careless mistakes. Pray hard his oral, paper 1 & listening comp will help to push the marks up...... If my dream is really so true, i dun mind if he can score 89% for his MT, ya, i am really DREAMING.... :stupid:

Haha, that's of course. I think I get more stress than my 2 ds. And they feel the heat then :rotflmao:

I do light yoga in classes with them and that actually helped to manage my stress better and my ds are able to focus better as well.
