Hi. For ebooks, have you tried searching from the library? Just set up a digital account and download the Overdrive app onto the ipad. Then can access the NLB database from the app to borrow books. Can make a reservation if book is out and an email is sent to you once it’s back. Could find the books I wanted so haven’t really been buying.

There is also skoob launched by Singtel not too long ago. This one I haven’t tried. Think have to access the website to buy and download books and after that syncing back into the ipad.

for movies, music, ebook etc.. may not be available to SG.

Precisely! It's driving me mad!! Censorship laws?

        DaddyD,
Do you mean downloading for free off the internet and then syncing it into the Ipad? Which (safe!!) sites do you use? I can't seem to find the ones I want and I'm willing to buy from the Apple shop for the convenience.

More like licensing issues I guess..

the free d/l is prob referring to apps, not contents..

As for contents not from Apple store.. juz d/l and covert to mp4 format and use apps like VLC to play..

but these contents are likely w/o license ones thou.. if you feel strongly that you muz pay for contents, then this route is not for you.

Can I open a US account without a US address? Sorry if it seems like a silly question! There are stuff I would dearly like to buy from there.

The NLB idea is a good one too! Thanks!

Glad that you started this thread, deminc. Am eyeing the ipad3 :rubhands: so reading the posts here is giving me a heads up of what to expect.

Just wondering if opening a vpost account might help? Upon signing up, will the vpost account come assigned with a US address? I'm also just as clueless :?: :?:

When u mention \"borrow books, are you referring to e-books by NLB?

I know we have to make reservations and pay the reservation fee for physical books. Does the same applie for e-books? Is there a loan period as well? ie. must read the book within 3 weeks otherwise the e-book is removed from the borrower's digital device?

                  Thanks πŸ˜‰

Yes, e-books from NLB. After login to account and checking out books, just download directly to ipad from within the Overdrive app. No reservation fee. Loan period is 3 weeks and you'll be prompted to delete the ebook from bookshelf when it is due. Anyway won't be able to access the book once it's due. πŸ˜„

                        deminc,

We just set up one using a US account. No problems with syncing.

Can we set up an us account with a local credit card?

I have another apple id set up with a gift card bought in US. I think I had problems using my credit card , can't remember exactly.
