        phtthp:

        from Nanyang Junior college.

parents and fellow colleagues were surprised at his sudden resignation in December :-

So, is the culprit from Nanyang JC or Pei Chun? Quite confused now...

wah, if principal of Nanyang JC would be so funny bc his wife is the previous principal of St Nicholas (left last Dec 2011). But I think I read it as it's the principal of Pei Chun and he studied in Nanyang JC, lah.

I understand calls from the public to better assess our civil servants/public service leaders. But, from a lay person’s perspective, I think it is not so easy to assess the morals of a person.

I think you can get a sense of a person’s character and personality (e.g. selfish, timid, gregarious, caring, impulsive etc.) through interacting with him/her, and even through tests; but how are you going to assess if he/she is likely to get into sexually dubious situations/take drugs/gamble/borrow from loan sharks etc. etc.?

You can’t ask them outright coz of course they will be smart enough to say no. And how do you test for it? Put pictures of scantily clad people in front of them and measure their heart rate? (By this measure many of us would fail!!) Isn’t this why, in many such situations, everyone gets so shocked when the scandal is revealed, because even those close to them would have no inkling that he/she would be capable of such acts?

Anyway, I think those people in that long long list must be freaking out already! I feel sorry for their families. Utterly humiliating.

This should be a reminder to those in prominent positions (especially in the public sector), that even if they have not committed a crime, they must not do anything that would bring their professions/families into disrepute. If the truth comes out (which they must assume will happen one day), they (and their innocent families) will need to deal with the public humiliation. I don’t know where they can put their faces now, given that Singapore is so small… The huge amount of publicity can be very effective in preventing people from falling into temptation.

Well-said.And I'm in fact grateful for the evolution of social media. With it, many things can't be kept under wraps for long. Even though the MSM did not identify the P, just a google search on him will reveal his identity with pics, no less.

So with this \"threat\", I hope the civil servants/ office-holders will think before they act.

emmm...this case reminds me of a male friend of mine whom I ever shared in some other posts.

Friend, about 48 years old currently, successful in career, with a U grad wife and two lovely kids, enjoy prostitution.

Legal or illegal, he will go for 'fixes' now and then. Used to be more regular when he was younger but now think 'tamer'.

His reason is wife is not 'hot' enough and will never 'co-operate' with him in the 'stunts' that he wants and so he finds it 'justifiable' to pay for services. (His theory: wife must be 'decent' and so sexual fantasies are not wife's job to satisfy.)

His position is such that he doesn't go around sleeping with friends' girlfriends/spouses or go around molesting others or find under-aged girls and he meets his needs by paying and so that should not be 'too bad'.

A nice husband, father, child (to his parents), and friend to have (see such an 'honest' man who can share with his childhood friends about his 'hobby' and as friends, we don't judge him at all...)

Maybe the principal involved in the case belongs to the same 'category' just that unfortunately he gets caught...

                Men...come in many colours...
Before AIDs evolved in 1980s, a lot of people also have the same excuse. Wait until another time even protected sex would transmit disease...

Again, we are talking about executing self control, loyalty, trust.
It makes us no differenc from animals if our moral standards becoming lower and lower.

                      buds:

MBS principal is a lady and has been there for many years.... On hindsight, might be better to have female principals :? So far the scandals involve man at the top.
Cannot be too dominated by feminine energy leh....otherwise all the boys will become sissies. Then how?

Anyway, what is the big deal? Ong Teck Chin already set up his own IB tuition centre...Singapore is small but people forget very quickly...he didn't kill or harm anyone right?

Then education sector might just be a dim prospect for male applicants in future.

who says he's not doing harm except to himself ?

men who visit prostitutes are ... irresponsible husband, irresponsible father.

men like to fantasize, go for hot babe, hot chick. Those chick in high popular demand means many customers had \"shared\" before, likely to catch VD disease. When sleep with wife later, he transmit VD disease to her, poor innocent victim. Once someone in the family catch VD / Aids virus, harmonious family unit is destroyed. wife blame husb for passing VD or Aids to her, children blame father for causing hurt to their poor mother.
I agree with your views. Like the other forumer who posted earlier said, if we cannot control our urge and lust, we are no different from animals.

Can't understand the argument of it is ok to be morally corrupt so long you can do your work professionally. It is like saying my spear is the strongest and can penetrate any shield but at the same time, also say my shield is the strongest and cannot be penetrated by any spear! No man is an island. Our actions, interactions with others bounce to have an effect on other parties one way or the other. More so if you are a principal or a politician.

More people will engage in such activities if the society is acceptance to the view of it is ok to be morally imperfect so long you can function professionally. For a start, there will be more divorces which mean more children will grow up in a broken family without proper guidance. More social issues will be created down the stream like domino effects.... kids join street gangs, drop out from schools, can't find a decent job entering adulthood and become criminal...

Go on, argue that even after divorce so long the father/mother keep up with the maintenance, custody visits, etc and it is ok to divorce. Just like it is ok to be morally unsound but still can work professionally. Be my guest.
