Secondary School Selection 2012

MrsSeah:
9 classes = 9 x 40 students = 360 students
Now she is P5. They have 9 classes in her P5 cohort.Zhuge:
how many classes are there in her P6 cohort?
those outside top 10 in school are probably very good students too -
Zhuge:
does this apply to DSA - Academic as well?
Yes, it applies to ALL DSAs.
Parents may want to note that since last year, those kids who have accepted successful confirmed offer from DSA, they are committed to the offer and cannot back out and appeal to another school if they get better results in PSLE (unless they have very valid reason like unable to fulfil commitment to DSA sports due to injury).Pen88n:
I've a P5, looking at Nan Chiau, Chung Cheng Main, TKGS.
For my P4, the wish is Victoria but.... Anyway, hope he can at least make it to Maris Stella via DSA. Anything better is a bonus.
So be careful with accepting DSA CO - be very sure you are definitely going to the sch before you accept the offer. There is no accepting a DSA CO, and hoping for better PSLE results that you can then use to appeal to another sch now. Sch have rejected appeals from cases with successful DSA COs under MOE's intervention since last year. -
Hi Mrs Seah,
Nan Chiau is going to be next big thingโฆso aim for it. -
definitely want my kids to go to the top schools.
-
My DD1 is P4 this year and we are staying v near (5 mins walk) to River Valley High
DD1 did mention that she hopes to study in that school since is so near home :imcool: Briefly explained the COP to attain in PSLE & also the committment / work load in secondary school.
Nevertheless, will still encourage her to do her best & mummy here will just give a little push  -

hahahaha..I am AIMING!!!! :boogie:Hi Mrs Seah,

Pray hard that my dd will get in.
Zhuge:
Oh not so much. Around 330 students, as some below advantage student will have smaller ratio, I know 1 classes have less than 20 student. While the few better aka best class will have bigger ratio. My girl class have 42 students this year. :slapshead:9 classes = 9 x 40 students = 360 students
those outside top 10 in school are probably very good students too -
For intake of 330 students, is it a norm for secondary school of such nature?

Snow Crystal:
When his friends were talking about going RI, my boy said he thinks that RI is out of reach and i said i agree with him. i am not about to let him go for tuition/enrichment for 4 subjects so that he can get into IP because 1. we cannot afford; 2. what happens after PSLE? tuition for more subjects in sec sch??jedamum:
hm..when did your kids start knowing which sch they would like to go? peer influence?
P6 open house influence....
Of course peers talk about it. But for a lot of kids it's parental influence.
Many years ago, practically every kiddo (lower pri) I met wants to go RI/RGS. So cute and innocent - at that age obviously influenced by parents.
I guess as they grow up, then they will realize only very few per pri school actually made it to the top sec schools.
We are more into assessing if he'll survive better in co-ed or boys' sch and will work on from there. Also going to assess if he'll do better in SAP Sch environment or non-SAP Sch. his current MT performance is like a yoyo.
for the time being, he has no preference. and we have preference for every 'score band' (eg 220-230 what sch, 230-235 what sch etc etc) to be realistic. -

For parents with kids in Pri sch, I suggest to talk to yr kids. You will be surprised that some do have on mind which school they want to go n even which one they do not want to go because they do talk about it in class.
I was not aware of DS dream sch till P6 when he told me about sec sch open house n he wanted to go to his 'dream' sch open house. The open house notice was put up on his classroom notice broad. -

Hi sista Champion,
That is very near and can afford to wake up late as well as reach home early after the CCA! :boogie:
FYI, DD leaves home at about 6.45am as she only needs to take MRT for one station and walk to school.
